  1. Entering Himapan for the very first time, you can’t help but feel a sense of tranquility in its quiet and artistic surrounding. Surrounded by beautiful Asian antique pieces and a scattering of completed lotus paintings, you will feel like you have left your stress and worries at the door. The art of lotus painting is therapeutic and a great way to connect with your inner quiet self. In a place where your background or work is irrelevant information, you can easily be an artist as lotus painting does not require experience, skills or talents. You just need to be open to try. There’s no worry about making a mistake with the colours or painting as you can easily wipe the colours away with water and start over. Paired with some light refreshments, this is truly an experience one should attempt to put on their to-do list when in Bangkok. Be prepared to spend about 3-4 hours per session, but fear not, the time will fly by as you sink yourself into making a piece of art that you can take home. Packaging for the painting is included, suitable for check-in at the airport. There is a 7-Eleven convenience shop 2 doors away, and a quiet cafe serving a variety of Western and Asian cuisine opposite Himapan Gallery. A motor-tuk from Interchange Tower to Himapan Gallery will only cost 10 baht. Just say ‘Silom Village’, get on it and pay 10 baht per person without asking for price at the end of the journey. Even that itself is an experience you should not miss. Definitely worth going back for and recommending to others!

  2. While the lotus painting experience is interesting at Himapan, avoid buying any of the antique Chinese furniture. I recently paid a hefty sum for one their furniture which I shipped home only to discover that one leg was completely rotten, looked burned! When I contacted the owner about this I was told that I must understand that the furniture is old and he was aware of this! If you decide to buy their furniture, make sure that you inspect it very carefully. They are not very honest about what they sell you.

  3. My mother tried Lotus Leaf Painting in Hanoi, Vietnam and had a really good experience so she took my brother (age 14) and I (age 16) to Himapan Gallery in Bangkok to create a set of panels to put up at the front of our house. The staff and employees are incredibly kind and helped guide us through the entire process; giving us some background information, teaching us different techniques and offering their advice. They offered us snacks and drinks while working and created such an inviting atmosphere. I really enjoyed it so I’m hoping to go back and create another piece!

  4. From the moment I entered the art gallery I was mesmerized by the experience of painting on lotus leaves!Teck and Catherine were gracious hosts and clearly have a passion for beauty. The first floor of the gallery is one-of-kind pieces and the second and third floors are the art workshops. It’s really a beautiful thing to take something organic and transform it into art for my home that brings fond reminders of Thailand. Thank you Teck and Catherine!Theresa, USA

  5. This was wonderful. One thing–our taxi driver was genuinely lost, trying to find the place, so we were about 45 minutes late. The owner was completely fine with our tardiness, however, and the class proceeded (there were only two students, my sister and I). Painting the lotus leaf panels was a neat process, and a lot of fun. We will have mementos unlike the usual souvenir. Very relaxing, fun experience.

  6. My sister and I took an art class – oil paint on lotus leaves stretched on a canvas. It was really fun and we both did beautiful paintings. Catherine (the gallery owner) clearly explained the process, had high quality materials for us to work with, showed us a variety of examples, and left us alone to create. This was really fun. I made three paintings and love them all. Oil paints dry slowly and we were leaving the next day so Catherine agreed to varnish our paintings once they were dry (she did offer other more immediate options but I didn’t really want to carry bulky paintings home anyway), box them up, & ship them to us. They arrived in excellent condition – bubble wrapped. My art looks beautiful! Over all this was a really fun experience. Catherine & her husband were charming and fun to talk to.

  7. Went with my daughter (aged 10) whilst staying in Bangkok as a special birthday treat as she loves arts and crafts and this looked like something different from the normal Bangkok activities. Spent 4 1/2 hours painting in a relaxed lovely environment and got lots of help / suggestions of techniques / colours etc so we could create our own wonderful pieces of art. Great help and advice regards to getting our pieces back to the UK which were 100% spot on and we had no trouble getting them home – due to time restraints we are varnishing at home and a brush and varnish supplied for us to do this. Lovely lovely staff and didn’t feel rushed to get our work done. Very enjoyable morning and 2 wonderful pieces of art from our trip to Thailand – Hope to visit again

  8. It is the second time I go with friends to paint on Lotus at Himapan Gallery and each time I enjoy so much this experience. Catherine shows us the different technics and then we simply “create our own masterpiece”. The atmosphere in the gallery is relaxing. The Gallery is also selling beautiful furniture.

  9. Even if you can’t paint..this class is not to be missed. Learning the art of Lotus painting is a rare opportunity and then being able to actually paint myself was a wonderful insight into Asian art. The class was small giving us lots of support, and showing us a variety of techniques. Because I was unable to return to varnish my artwork, they packaged it up and included extra tools so that I could compete it at home. If I ever return to Bangkok I would absolutely sign up for this workshop again! Wonderful teacher and staff!

  10. Very laid back and friendly, well packaged for flight home and given vanish to compete at home. Very happy with my painting
