Fah Lanna Massage – by the Night Bazaar is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 186/3 Loy Kroh Road, 50100, Thailand
This place was recommended by our G Adventure tour guide despite hundreds other massage shops in Chiang Mai that look elegant but less expensive. I have read other reviewers saying that travel companies recommend it !!!!! This explains why it is busy compared to other places. I also noted that they do not take a walk in customer, even if they are free at the time, they must send you away with an appointment given even if it is in the next hour or two. This was my observation when my husband and I visited, only my husband wanted a massage (for the first time in his life) and I sat in the waiting room waiting for him with free WiFi. So I was observing the “trend” of dealing with walk in clients. Staff are friendly. The place is quiet, clean and elegantly dressed. They serve you cool drinks and wet face towels at the beginning to cool down while filling the forms. After the massage, they serve you hot Thai tea and rice crackers, which they sell at their place. We found the prices much higher than many other places.
We opted for the 2 hour Fah Lanna Miracle which was a combination of Thai Herbal Ball Massage and Aromatherapy Oil Massage. I personally do not love massages in general, but I like aromatherapy oil massages as it’s usually less painful and awkward for me. I opted for a soft massage and which the oil massage was mostly soothing and relaxing, there were some points I wondered how the ‘hard’ massage would feel like because the masseuse was pressing down so hard that it hurt. The Herbal Ball Massage was an interesting experience. Firstly, it was very hot! After the body gets used to it, it can be pretty soothing in some areas of your body. The strange thing is how at the end of the massage, the Herbal Ball was placed just below my belly button and left there for maybe 8 to 10 mins while she massaged my head and shoulders. It got painfully hot and left a red patch after. Generally, the place is clean and the masseuse professional and friendly. I would go back, but just for the Aromatherapy Oil Massage.
I was so excited to be back to Chiang Mai again so that I could visit Fah Lanna – the last visit was 8 years ago and it’s still at the same excellent standard of quality. Som was my masseuse and she was superb. My treatment started with a 30-minute sauna to open the pores and sweat out impurities. Som then provided a full body scrub and aromatherapy massage; it was so good, I felt like I had come out of my own body and skin was silky smooth, which is a rare state for someone who suffers with keratosis pilaris. Side note; you can buy the delicious end of treatment tea and snacks they provide in reception! Great gifts. Thank you! When I’m back in Chiang Mai next I’ll be visiting you again.
It can be hard to find a good Thai massage in touristy places, but I saw this place had good reviews so I went for a one-hour Thai massage.I was shocked as soon as it started. The masseuse started with my back and didn’t seem to have any idea what she was doing. She applied far too much pressure far too close to my spine (so that the next day I have a lot of pain around my upper spine and back) and kept slipping / working the muscles unevenly. It made me question whether she was properly trained, even though she was slightly better (but not very good) with the arms and legs.In short, I got the impression the masseuse was just doing what you or I might do if told to give a Thai-style massage. The next day, I have a lot of pain and muscle tension that wasn’t there before and I’m slightly concerned that she bruised my spine. Be careful!
This treatment was the worse experience I’ve ever had. I chose the natural glow package which included scrub, bath/steam and 1 hour massage. The process went really slow and inefficient and 90% of the personnel didn’t speak English which made the process much harder. The bath was really cold and took 1,5 hours to tap. Since it was so cold, we asked for a steam instead and it took many arguments back and forth before we were offered to steam instead. The massage was great, as the therapists tried to do their best. However, it still felt like their were beginners, and not so professional. All in all, this place did not meet our expectations of a five star rated spa.
I highly recommend this place! They welcome you with a nice iced tea and a towel, and the therapist was very good and made my back felt much better, she respected the timings and was very professional. Also when the massage was finished they give you a ginger tea and some kind of cookies. And the cherry on top is that the receptionist booked a taxi for me since my phone had turned off. Worthy all the way.
Transcendence. This was an extraordinary experience. The place is easy to find with great decoration and beautiful on the outside and the entrance with this little cosy garden and lovely reception room, with sober and simple but so lean and comfortable sofas, and exquisite dark woods like in a minimalist style.Upon entrance the lovely receptionist received us without reservation (you can book online and the site is quite good), at 7pm -last booking was at 7:30pm – with a tasty flower flavoured tea, and we filled a form about what we wanted and how (strong, normal or soft massage), signaling the spots with pain and discomfort in a drawing within the form. Very good English too.It took about 5 minutes to prepare for everything, we (me and my wife) were received by two very experienced and kind therapists (not just massagists as I noticed the day after the massage), who cleaned our feet with water and some oils to make us have baby feet again, and then they brought us to the massage room (they had more than 1) and we were alone, to get dressed with comfy loose cotton clothes they provide. Then the experience is really out of this world, a nice soft music, and they start working, it is like a dance actually… she adjusts to what responses she gets from your body, I didn’t say anything, she just felt if they were muscle “knots” she would start soft and then stronger until breaking the knot. We did the balm Thai massage for 1hour, and it was the best massage of my life, and certainly one of the best experiences of my life too until today. You come out from there as a better person literally. When we finished, we filled the form with a short evaluation of the service and we were served a ginger tea with a tasty cookie with sesame seeds.I cannot thank them enough for this hour and this were the best money spent on Thailand for us.
I had a great massage. Since this was my first with Fah Lanna, I only got one hour. This is probably a mistake. The time seemed to go by so quick. (And in case you are wondering she gave me the full hour. So, no, I did not get ripped off) My masseuse was named Sopha, and I definitely recommend her, if any needs a name. She took her time, has gentle yet firm hands and continued to checknonnme to make sure I was comfortable. (Some people give off the feeling of a good spirit, and she has that as well). If Fah Lanna happens to read this review, Mahalo nui loa, for a great massage. Khop khun khrap,Jason
Fantastic massage.Booked an hour of Thai Balm Massage. Felt good after the massage.Staffs are polite and friendly. Recommend!
My husband and I had lovely spa treatments here. The spa is very tranquil and relaxing. The therapists were professional and kind. I would highly recommend this spa to anyone visiting Chang Mai.
We were so excited to go to this spa after reading the glowing reviews. It is a beautiful spa but the massages were terrible. Both our therapists were male, which was unexpected. They were unskilled and seemed to not care. We asked for traditional Thai massages, which are usually very deep with a lot of stretching and intense sensation. The massages that we received bored us to sleep. Not once did I feel anything that resembled a Thai massage. Very disappointing. To make matters worse, the massage costs almost triple the cost of the other Thai massages in the area.
