A lot of techstile shops; and lot of goods and a good bargain. Interesting for some… boring for others.
Centrally located. You can find cheap clothes there, cheap food and acceptable service. Public transport is not far.
I had been there a number of times. Whenever I was on my own, I found it take time to explain it the cab driver. Now, it is easier to show google map. A wide range of silks constantly drew attention. There were so many things to buy. Look, touch, bargain are the part of fun. Thai foods and snacks are also available. Surrounding area is full of interests too.
Only 2 min. Walk from Sam Yot station on MRT blue line.Inside the mall have nothing much special as other people commented. On the grand floor there are sweet venders, which can buy almost every Thai sweets. 2nd floor have a lot of Thai Silk venders. Also massage places. This 3 story-high shopping mall does not have any proper restaurants but has food court on 3rd floor. Nowadays most of food courts in the city use prepaid card using service but this food court use paper coupon which is quite retro. Also some locals gather at the part of food court and doing Kataokr there. It was quite interesting to watch them. Still not many tourists having meal there but newly extended MRT line, MRT Sam Yot is near by and have some historical temple such as Wat Suthat Thepwararam, Wat Ratchabopit, Wat Phipphayawari etc as well as I.C.P flower market which is huge wholesale flower market.
Old Siam Plaza is an architectural highlight located a short walk away from the recently opened Sam Yot Station on the MRT Blue Line. It is surrounded by somewhat Italianate colonnades which are pleasant to walk through. It has apparently benefited from renovation (or is maybe not so “Old” anyway) and is clean and smartly painted in yellow and white. We noticed several gold shops and window displays suggesting opportunities for souvenir shopping but did not investigate further. There are also textiles for sale and a food court inside.
It ain’t super modern or a mall with famous international brands, but it has it charm with local products and a lot of Thai silk. Would recommend a trip if u have time and have been to the more famous tourist spots.I myself prefer this kind of shopping mall as the bigger, newer one all are a like all over the world.
Old school place in old town. Parking available making it easy for people who want to buy stuff around that area. Some noodle and food stalls on the side and food booths in the middle of the mall. There’s old fashioned lace clothing and jewelry stores inside. Lots of older generation like to shop here, if you need something old styled, silk and jewelry there’s lots here as well as some old school food. There’s a k bank here and gun shops around.
Not so impressive for Westerners/tourists. Pretty nice building, but not a great place to find treasures in China Town. There are so many better places. This isn’t a tourist spot in my humble opinion.
The Old Siam Plaza is close to the Sam Yot Station on the MRT underground. After a 300 metre walk we found our way to the Plaza. It looks like there is a renovation underway but that did not detract from the experience. Plenty of options from the market space on the ground floor to the larger shops on the floors above. The silk and jewellery options are many. But be aware that most of the shops offer the same products. Still that is good as one can get a really good idea of value. The 3rd floor has a food court which is traditional Thai cuisine. No cash, so purchase a card for money which you use to purchase what you are after. Because this Plaza is very big, a small tip make sure you exit the same way you entered. Very modern and air-conditioned which is very relaxing and out of the oppressive 33 degree heat. Good for families, wide walkways and very friendly, which is the Thai way of doing things.
This place is a must to visit if you’re looking for Thai silk or the traditional clothing. Prices varies depending on the quality and design. However, location may be a tad too far from the city area.We were lucky to have met a very friendly and helpful team of family from this store which offers variety of silk to choose from and they’ll provide recommendations according to the colour category of your choice or design you wish to make. Other storekeepers were friendly too despite limited English.
