  1. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the retreat, this is my second time training with Mike. All of Mikes staff are spot on all very helpful and are a whats app message away if needed. Though I was there 9 weeks, I trained with a lot of people from all over the world coming and going on the retreat and everyone was spot on, everyone makes you feel welcome and always do stuff together outside of the retreat (if you want to that is). I still keep in touch with a few of them 6 months later.Even though i’m a bigger guy than most, there were a few things I struggled to do but Mike always gave me an alternative. I loved the workouts, tabata, emom, amrap, muay thai (at a gym near by) strength and conditioning, treks/hikes up to the waterfall and buddha and my favourite was running club on Wednesdays. literally week 1, I was struggling due to hardly any exercise and being lazy but after that I was away. I lost 12kg and 6.5″ off my waist which I was pleased about and still to this day I have kept it off. I did the 3km run in 29 mins in week 1 and by week 9 I was doing it in 20 mins. My strength increased 120 kg deadlift before 145kg after. Wish I lived closer to continue the training but I will be back later this year.Outside of the retreat I recommend going to Silver beach which is absolutely stunning, jungle club for a great view and even hire a moped and go around the island for the day. For massages I always used Ingtara which is a 2 minute walk from the gym.

  2. Overweight and unfit, I found Samui Fitness Retreat on google and booked myself in for a month of the most intense training I could ever imagine. The trainers (Mike, Adam and guests) take no prisoners, there is no hiding from their gaze in the back or in the shadows. The month I spent on the retreat was the hardest I have ever worked. It pushed me to my limits and then pushed me some more. Those who crave an intense workout wont be disappointed. But for rookies, like myself, the best thing about the retreat was the community and the deep bonds you build with other like minded people all suffering along side you. The retreat staff then build upon this environment to create a wonderfully supportive and inclusive culture both inside and outside of the gym.I was very satisfied with the hotel. Staying there for such a long period I considered, prior to booking, whether I should upgrade to a luxury resort. I chose to stay with the standard hotel and was pleasantly surprised. Whilst simplistic in comparison to the 5 star options, the Crystal Lamai hotel was very new and generously spacious. The rooms were equipped with extra large beds, large showers, great air conditioners and pretty good WiFi too. The schedule of training was frequently moulded and manipulated around weather or activities. Keep a laid back attitude and go with the flow, don’t sweat the small stuff because you’ll be sweating over everything else anyway in the humidity. From airport pickup to airport drop off my entire trip went without a problem. This was impressive as I felt that I was there in the peak of the season (End of Year Holidays) and the gym was at full capacity and the volume of PT sessions and admin work must have been huge.The Body Transformation package came with a food package included which equated to a dedicated ‘Retreat Menu’ for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at a restaurant located in the base of the Crystal Lamai hotel. The healthy retreat menu food was cooked quite well, but at the time I was there it lacked variety or options. By the 3rd week of the retreat I was starting to explore other options at my own expense. In the week that I was leaving the retreat they were talking about adding multiple new options and doubling the size of the menu.Overall, the best thing about the retreat was the culture and the people. The friendships and the memories will last a life time.

When interested in booking a retreat package for Samui Fitness Retreat, I was contacted the same day I filled in a contact form by Head Coach Mike – way to make a great first impression!After being reassured that the retreat is for persons from all different fitness levels, I signed up for the 4 week body transformation package.Transport to the hotel from the airport was arranged and the next morning, it was time to get introduced to the gym and other retreat members. We were all staying in the same hotel so there was always someone there to walk the short 5 minutes with you to the gym, just 1 block away. The welcome at the gym is really warm by Soda, the gym manager and head coach Mike. After an initial weighing and some before foto’s it was time for the first session. I had never heard of crossfit before, didn’t have any experience with the movements and haven’t worked out a single day in the last 2 years. It was tough, but with the help of the coaches – Mike, Adam and guest coach Sadie – I learnt how to put my body into positions as to not injure myself or others around me, learnt about how to control my breath and movements to get the most out of each exercise. Mentally, I had no idea that the other retreat guests would become so important to me.Growing up I had always only ever participated in team sports and struggled at the gym because there was no one but myself to hold myself accountable for my actions. It was completely different here as everyone was in it together. Some exercises are completed together where 2 or 3 of you chip away at a large total of repetitions of a certain exercise, everyone always watches your back to check your technique but above all motivate you to get your butt that 1 inch lower or to give the last big effort when doing a sled push. With the programme I did, I was expected to attend 3 sessions a day – 7 am outdoor session, 10AM crossfit class and 16.15 strength class (upper body, lower body or abs). Although it is encouraged to come as often as you can to get the best results, it is not compulsory. I like this a lot because it allows youto still book visits and tours around the island or maybe even sleep in after a night out.Even though you go on hikes Friday mornings, you don’t need hiking shoes – your regular gym shoes are just fine if they have a bit of profile. All in all a great retreat with a professional yet casual atmosphere. really lovely coaches for the main crossfit and strength classes as well as all outdoor classes (SUP/Paddlebaording, Muay Thai boxing, Yoga, Hike, Mobility & Running).I lost 5 kgs in just under 4 weeks and my body made such a transformation. Mentally I also felt a lot stronger and more positive after my visit. I will visit again for 2 weeks in April.

  4. A gym enthusiast , I took part in a 2 weeks-Fitness Escape here. The instructors are very dedicated and takes great joy in training us. The fitness programme can be quite physically strenous for a first timer, but yet the experience has always being pleasant. I got to make new international friends n enjoy Koh Samui via trekking in jungle + mountain, visit beach, lake+Muay Thai training grounds. The community is strong n friendly among the workout sessions here, with lots of great trainers and fellow workout friends from e locals as well. Hotel accomodation is comfortable n helpful. However, food here (provided n in general) is average only.I would recommend a minimum of 2 weeks for this Fitness Escape. Adam and Mike spent the first few days patiently focusing on our execution of e correct techniques and correct my previous habbits of simply getting the sets completed with the heaviest weights possible. Once every rep has a purpose, e workout can achieve more effective improvements for the 2nd week onwards.I went home pleased to discover that my muscle mass ( esp. for legs) has increased, while my body fats have decreased slightly. But I realised more importantly, I now have a better workout program to implement for my gym practises, and had a great time in Koh Samui!

  6. Samui Fitness Retreat changed my life! I originally booked for 1 month but ended up staying for 3 because I was getting such great results. I lost 25 lbs/11 kg and have never felt stronger, healthier or happier!My goals were weight loss and to become stronger (both physically and mentally). I had zero CrossFit experience and hated exercise when I arrived. I left with confidence to be able to join any gym when I got home and fell in love with working out. Coach Mike was amazing from the start. He’s very knowledgeable about fitness and health. He put me on a meal plan and did a great job holding me accountable to it and making changes as needed. He was quick to give me modifications in the gym if I couldn’t do something. He pushed me mentally and physically further than I thought I was capable of. He also makes sure you have fun and lots of laughs throughout the retreat. Most importantly though, is his passion for what he does, which you can feel in every aspect of the program from time you submit an inquiry on the website to when it’s time to say good-bye. He even messaged me when I got home to make sure I stuck with my training.I chose this retreat based on the professionalism of the website and the great reviews. The professionalism carried over from the website to the program as a whole and all of the great comments in the reviews were true. Great location, great training, great team and the best retreat in Samui!Whether you’re a fitness fiend or just starting out, I can’t recommend this retreat enough. I can’t wait to go back!

  7. It is a real pleasure to write this reference for Samui Fitness Retreat. I joined coach Mike and his team early March 2020 for a three months long body transformation program, and left with having met all set goals — physically, mentally and beyond! Before going into details, I would like to try and answer one of the questions you might be sitting wondering about. The same as I initially had before booking — Why this retreat, what make’s it stand out from all others out there? Because let’s be honest, there are quite some to choose from, all seeming to offer similar value propositions. My personal answer to this is, HEART! I have never felt that level of passion and dedication in regards to reaching my personal goals as during this retreat. This of course combined with profound competence within fitness and great infrastructure. So, looking at the practicalities. The accommodation, CrossFit box and beach are all within walking distance from each other. Lovely! On arrival you get a walkthrough of the programme, meal plan, expectation regrading goals and your stay in general, as well as meeting the retreat crew. Good to know, and what also amazed me was that independent if you are a beginner or an advanced crossfit athlete you always receive a scaled workout. This enabling everyone to enjoy and reach the same level of training, regardless of previous experience. I personally had never participated in a crossfit class before, and fell in love after the very first workout. A special thanks goes directly to Mike who always brought immense enthusiasm, creativity and passion without limits to every interaction. Worth highlighting is his inspirational attitude and mindset which organically and effortlessly spread amongst all people taking part in his classes, through the retreat or just signed up for single drop-in classes. This creating an amazing and supportive atmosphere. All in all those three months was life changing and one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had the time of my life, met life-long friends and pleasure to get coached by people with amazing fitness knowledge and heart dedicated to (in a sustainable manner) push you to reach your goals. So, if you aim or are seeking for anything remotely similar you’ll find it on Samui together with coach Mike and his team!

  8. My first fitness retrait and it was great. Unfortunately I had to leave earlier because of Corona but I definitely will come back! Perfect classes/workouts, gorgeous people, nice setting, excellent food, Mike’s flexibiliy… very good job. I had an awesome time.

  9. I had planned to join the Samui Fitness Retreat for three weeks but ended up staying three months – which already speaks for itself, I think 🙂 The whole experience has changed my life. I have never felt stronger – physically and mentally – and I am amazed by what one is capable of when one gets the right coaching.Before I came to Samui, I had only been into sports for a few months and had never heard of CrossFit before. Coach Mike and his team have managed to push me to achieve results that I have never thought would be possible. I have learned to challenge myself and to believe in myself, and what I am actually capable of. The training is hard but super fun and brings amazing results in a very short time. It doesn’t matter what level of fitness you have, you always receive a scaled workout. So it is therefore possible that experienced CrossFit athletes train alongside beginners and support each other. This spirit is unique and very motivational.I would like to point out Coach Mike’s passion for what he does. He has a huge fitness knowledge, is very experienced, creative, and enthusiastic and manages to motivate each individual and contribute positively to the group dynamics. Mike and his team have ignited my passion for CrossFit and are responsible for me joining a local CrossFit box so I can keep working on the best version of myself :)Long story short: Best retreat on Koh Samui ! Made lifelong friends and am extremely grateful for everything I learned and was able to take with me. Hope to come back soon !

  10. Already planning my next trip!!I had an incredible time at Samui Fitness Retreat… one week was definitely not long enough. I was new to Crossfit and I am now addicted!! In addition to building strength, learning new techniques and increasing my endurance… it massively built my confidence to try new things and to push myself further and harder than I thought I could go! Mike is an incredible coach and put me completely at ease. He is super knowledgable, approachable, kind, reassuring, encouraging… and good fun! I felt so welcome by him, the other people at the retreat and by members of Lamai beach crossfit. I loved the mobility, crossfit and strength classes throughout the week. We also went on two hikes during the week which were fab!I chose to do the retreat package without food included and there are lots of options around for healthy food should you wish to also do this. Mike was great at recommending healthy places to eat and recommended good pre and post workout food options which really helped!The accommodation is fab and just one road away from the gym which we were very grateful for after a tough workout!!I highly recommend going to Samui Fitness Retreat whether it be for 1 week, 1 month or more! :)Oh and don’t be late to class… Mike will get you doing burpees for every minute you’re late!!!!!!!!!
