Fantastic experience with crew and diving on manta queen 2 liveaboard. Great diving, sights, food and company. Highly recommend!
Wonderful experience with Manta Queen 2. Some of the best Diving I’ve done. Woody as the trip leader runs a very safe and funny ship. You are given enough freedom to enjoy yourself on the boat and underwater, then reminded in the correct manner about safety if needed. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean with excellent food prepared by the chef. The Thai Crew are polite, hard working and very helpful and also like to have fun.Could recommend this company easily with Woody at the helm. Thanks extended to Roy Jack and Katie.
Liveaboard on MQ8 is the worst experience I have ever met during my ten years diving life. All shoes are placed in a large bag, which is neither hygienic nor does it keep light-colored shoes clean. Towels are never changed, and if there is no toilet paper, you has to ask for it. Rooms are hardly cleaned; only trash is emptied, beds are never made, and the floor is very dirty. Showers in the rooms often have no water, frequently resulting in situations where the tap is turned on but no water comes out or very little water comes out. Rooms often experience power outages, with no one informing about the cause or when power will be restored. Dining area tables and floors are never cleaned, covered in food residues, and the pedal of the garbage can for food waste disposal is always broken and never repaired. Daily dive sites are very random, often resulting in undecided dive sites, and even asking customers to vote on the next dive site; the timetable often changes at the last minute. No beverages before diving, and beverages upon return need to be self-served. The boat runs out of beverages by the third day. The boat’s engine often malfunctions, resulting in cancellations of dives at the Hin daeng Hin Muang dive site and the last two dives on the final day. Preparation for nitrox is insufficient, resulting in customers who purchased nitrox only being able to dive twice a day using nitrox from the third day to the end. There is no hairdryer, and the bathroom sink does not have a drainpipe. The design of the TV in the dining area is extremely unreasonable, with multiple people hitting their heads, posing a significant danger to both customers and staffs.I would never recommend anyone to liveaboard on MQ8.
I must say im not a very experienced diver but I felt very comfortable and safe diving with katie and the surrounding crew. I thought the dive sites were great, saw turtles, octopus, a large sting ray in a cave and tons of other sea life. The coral is vibrant and the temps and currents were fine. As far as the boat there is a great roof deck with cozy spots to read and lounge, nice size bathrooms/showers and more than large enough cabins with AC. The food was some of the best ive had in thailand which felt like home cooked meals and the thai crew are some of the nicest and hardworking fellows. At first I was a bit sticker shocked when my gf told me what ide pay but i had no idea what to expect and i believe bang for buck was worth it times 100. What a great way to embrace full holliday. Thank you woody, brad, katie tish and the wonderful thai crew!
No need to look any further, you’ve found your liveaboard ? Professional, thorough, highly knowledgeable. Helpful at every stage. Shout out to the remarkable Elsa for showing us a new world and pushing us to better (excellent instructor if you need one), and to Woody for keeping us all safe!
Just came off a 3 day liveaboard on MQ2 (North Andaman). Had a wonderful time, this trip is excellent value. What made it special was a) the fantastic crew – professional, organized, no-nonsense. I got the sense they have been working a team for a long time and each knew their own tasks and responsibilities. b) very knowledgeable, passionate dive guides (Woody, Tish, Monja, Roy). We always felt safe. Tish was my guide for the trip and was so knowledgeable about all living Marine things and knew the sites perfectly. This made the experience much richer and func) excellent trip Leader (Woody) who kept us informed and kept us safed) Great food (and loads of it). You will not go hungry on this trip! My diet starts today. e) Richelieu rock was beautiful, but also had very special dives at Tachai and Hin Luang.f) A great group of fellow divers. Ok, sometimes you get lucky and have a great group. Sometimes you don’t. But this group was excellent, and I think in part because they were all happy with the boat / crew / itinerary Can recommend and will definitely be back.
We have spent 5 days with KSA team on board of Manta Queen 1 diving around Similan and Surin Islands. Manta Queen 1 team deserves special kudos for making our trip extraordinary. Thanks a lot for taking care of us under the water and on board. Special thanks to Tik, excellent guide, who shown us best places underwater, make us feel safe, but gave us enough freedom to explore underwater world by ourselves under his supervision. Kudos to Maria for keeping the discipline ? and her great dive briefings – the best we ever had. Girls from kitchen fed us like in 5 Michelin star restaurant. Not forgetting dive deck support or experience captain and his crew. Even dough boat itself not luxurious, it is clean and very well maintained. I am looking forward getting onboard again, and for sure if KSA opens safaris in Myanmar.
The crew was amazing. They did everything they could to make you as comfortable as possible on a 4 dives a day trip. Woody the the director was fantastic, very organized and knowledgeable. The Chef was also phenomenal. Food was some of the best I’ve had in Thailand. The entire Thai crew worked very hard, they even put your fins on and picked up your tank to then walk you to the platform. Oh yeah the diving was great too!
Khao Lak Scuba Adventures was my couple’s “baptism” for a liveaboard. We chose Manta Queen 1, 5 days around the Similan and Surin islands. We absolutely loved our experience in the cruise, everything was perfect and we were extremely impressed with the general professionalism of the whole operation. The boat was organized like clockwork: the staff knew always exactly what to do to anticipate all needs and were obviously trained by somebody extremely experienced and wise.Ever since we have experienced more, but Khao Lak Scuba Adventures remains the best of them all. The boat was spacious and clean, the staff was absolutely incredible. We had a twin cabin with en-suite bathroom that was extremely comfortable and kept always spotless. The cook was out of this world. The diving programme was all we were promised and more. A special mention goes to Dom: communication with him before our trip was always extremely efficient, punctual and on point; he surely played a crucial role in our decision process and made us confident of our choice before ever having met anyone in person. The price was incredibly honest, best quality/price ratio we’ve found in months of research. And they provided free transfer from and back to the Phuket airport! We honestly will redo the same exact experience when we’re back in Thailand, just longer! Our choice was the 5-day live-aboard around Similan, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock: the one regret we have is that it was too short: next time we’ll do at least a week! Thanks again for a wonderful experience!
Lots of good points, but also lots of frustrations, would not dive here again. I was on the Manta Queen 2. Good points:.・The food is good. Good: The food is good and the portions are large.・Free snacks and soft drinks. The bad:.・The electrical system malfunctioned and I experienced electric shocks and power outages due to leaks, as well as charger and conversion plug malfunctions. I am not alone in that, of course!・The rooms are very cold because of the air conditioning (25 degrees Celsius is a must, and the rule is that the air conditioner must not be turned off).・There are too few bathrooms for the number of people, and there is a big line before and after the dive. Of course, you have to endure a long time to use the restroom.・The floor is soaking wet, but they don’t change towels, so you almost slip and fall.・There are many cockroaches in the room. Lots of flies in the kitchen and dining room.・No manta rays and whale sharks.・The last dive site was the worst ever with only 1m visibility, so we surfaced in 15 minutes. Of course, that was the end.・We were taken to an area where there were more divers than fish, and we were shown only the same fish every time.・They ask for 100% of the tour fee for tips.・The instructor’s English accent was so bad that it was very difficult to understand.・The dive sites are chosen in a very strange way. I wonder if they intentionally take us to places where there is nothing but strong currents that just make us tired.・The dive sites are very strange, and I wonder if they intentionally take us to places where there is nothing but strong currents and exhaustion.
We did the four day, three night liveaboard on Manta Queen 2 at the end of December ‘24. We had a lovely time, and it was great diving. The boat was clean, excellent Thai crew and incredible cooking by Chef Muay and her assistant, Pomme. Huge thanks to our dive guide, Elsa, for an awesome trip, attention to detail, and her great sense of humor! Woody is also top notch (and has excellent taste in music) and gave informative and highly entertaining briefings throughout each day. Highly recommend this dive company, and thanks again to the whole crew for a fantastic and fun trip!
If you’re considering a liveaboard experience, this is the one to go for! My 4D3N scuba diving trip exceeded all expectations, thanks to the incredible crew and well-planned itinerary.First and foremost, a huge shoutout to Woody, our dive guide, whose attentiveness and expertise made every dive safe, fun, and unforgettable. He took the time to cater to our varying skill levels, always ensuring we felt confident and comfortable underwater. His infectious humor and positive energy also lightened the atmosphere, making every moment on the boat a joy.Chef Muay and her assistant deserve a standing ovation for their culinary magic. Every meal was a masterpiece, from hearty breakfasts to sumptuous dinners, perfectly timed to refuel us after a full day of diving. The variety and quality of the food were outstanding, my friends and I are still dreaming of the delicious Thai dishes. The boat itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with cozy cabins and ample space to relax between dives. The crew worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring everything ran smoothly. The dive spots were spectacular, think vibrant reefs, incredible marine life, and rather good visibility in most areas.Thank you to the entire team for creating such an amazing experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an unforgettable diving adventure with world-class service.
My partner, myself and a friend of ours boarded the Manta Queen 2 on 31st December 2024. Over the next 3 days we did 11 scuba dives throughout the Similan Islands and it was truly an incredible trip. Instructors Woody, Joana, Alfonso, and Banks were knowledgeable, informative, and kind. My partner was a non-diver on the trip, he got to snorkel and free dive and he still had an incredible time and got to see heaps of sea life. The thai crew on board ensured you were always comfortable and prepared for every dive. The food was absolutely incredible, some of the best Thai food we have ever tasted! Special thank you to Joana – Whilst on board I completed my Advanced Adventurer SSI course and Joana was one of the best instructors I’ve had. Thanks to her, I’ve gained a better understanding and significantly improved diving skills such as buoyancy. 10/10 we wouldn’t hesitate to book another liveaboard with Khao Lak Dcuba Adventures!!
This trip was amazing! It was my first live-aboard, and i absolutely loved it! The staff was super friendly, the guides did a great job guiding us and making sure our dive groups were balanced and similar in air consumption. The food on board was absolutely amazing and we were spoiled with so many delicious meals and snacks. The program they made for the divesites was perfect, if necessary they would change it, so we would get the best possible experience. We got great briefings and were taken care of perfectly.Only the beds were quite hard and not co comfortable, but they were fine for a decent nights sleep and i never had any problems with sleeping.Would definitly recommend 10/10
I joined a 6-day, 5-night Similan diving trip, and while the dive sites were spectacular, the experience was marred by poor management, unprofessional behaviour, and a lack of attention to guest comfort, particularly from the Dutch tour leader. Having done another Similan liveaboard previously, I can confidently say this operator fell short of the standard I’ve experienced at a lower cost.Management Issues:The tour leader frequently bad-mouthed passengers to each other, creating a divisive and even confrontational atmosphere. When tensions inevitably erupted, rather than de-escalating the conflict, she took sides, participating in and further exacerbating the drama.Requests and feedback from divers were often met with defensiveness or blame. Divers who made reasonable requests, such as slower-paced dives or adjusting the group order, were branded as “difficult” and publicly shamed. This created an atmosphere of negativity onboard, where divers felt unable to make requests, suggestions, or complaints.Minor misunderstandings or delays were disproportionately punished with public humiliation or gossip, which felt petty and unprofessional. The Boat and Comfort Levels:This is very much a budget trip, and there are few accommodations for comfort. The dive deck can feel crowded, especially as you climb through and past other divers under dripping wetsuit rails. The pre-dive period, as everyone hurriedly gets ready, can be stressful, and coming out of the water to unpack your gear while tired or cold is more difficult than I’m used to.Weird quirks, such as your crate of gear sitting under your neighbour’s tank, add to the challenge as everyone climbs over each other pre- and post-dive. The lack of space and organisation makes these periods unnecessarily chaotic.Briefings:Briefings were overly long, sometimes lasting well over an hour, and filled with unnecessary tangents and superfluous detail going far beyond the actual dive at hand. Long, disorganised briefings made it difficult to stay focused or retain important information. Key info could have been explained in 10 minutes, with the bad jokes and irrelevant side tales saved for downtime.Dive Timings:Dive schedules could be confusing and poorly managed. One morning, we were rushed and hurried because the tour leader wanted us in the water early. Everyone suited up, geared up, masks and fins on, but then we waited over an hour before we were actually allowed in the water. At other times, the process was so rushed that tensions ran high, with divers getting visibly angry if someone delayed the group by even a few minutes. This lack of consistency and planning created unnecessary stress.Marijuana Use on Board:While marijuana is now legal in Thailand, I was surprised to find that its use was welcomed on the boat. I’ve never been on a dive ship where marijuana use is permitted, regardless of local legality. I question whether it is sensible to allow such a substance onboard a dive ship, given the unique safety and social challenges it presents. It’s bad enough that some tourists are going a bit wild with newly legalised weed on land, but allowing it on a dive ship poses specific dangers. In my case, my randomly assigned roommate got repeatedly stoned, became paranoid, and had to be talked down multiple times. They started acting unpredictably, saying strange, paranoid, and delusional things, and even made bizarre accusations that created unnecessary drama onboard. This made the shared space uncomfortable and added an avoidable layer of stress to the trip. Allowing marijuana onboard creates the potential for such situations to arise, leaving solo guests vulnerable to the luck of the draw of their assigned roommates.Dive Guide Behaviour:One male dive guide showed clear favouritism toward a female diver they were flirting with, often catering exclusively to her preferences while disregarding the rest of the group. This behaviour created tension within the group, as other divers felt overlooked or excluded from decisions.Logistical Problems:Day 1: Check-in was chaotic, with divers left waiting at the dive shop for over four hours without updates. Upselling nitrox courses felt pushy, and staff were dismissive when asked for information.Group Size: While 28 divers is apparently small in Thailand, it felt overcrowded on the dive deck and underwater as we quickly crowded the sites. This was especially problematic during night dives, which were chaotic, with divers struggling to identify their group from the masses.Dive Group Order: Those placed in later groups for dives faced logistical challenges, such as rushing to return their gear before meals or finding food already depleted. This was a persistent issue throughout the trip, as the tour lead refused to shuffle the group order despite feedback.Positives:The Thai non-diving crew, including the housekeeping staff and cook, were kind, helpful, and accommodating of dietary needs. The food was decent, and the dive sites themselves were fantastic, though they are widely accessible with any operator in the area. Conclusion:This trip had the potential to be a wonderful experience, but the management’s behaviour and poor group dynamics detracted significantly from the enjoyment. If you’re considering a Similan dive trip, I recommend looking into other operators for a more professional and cohesive experience.
Overall, food n service crew are amazing. Both my friend & me got shouted at by the lead guide when we were underwater trying to go up to d stairs (surface with choppy water). How the heck were we supposed to hear any instructions when we were underwater?? Common sense, hello?? FYI, we speaks good English so please keep your insults away. At one time, he strucked my mask so hard when I was about to climb up d stairs – this is an unacceptable & painful experience. We just felt bullied. Never again.
