  1. An amazing experience from start to finish – and beyond. We booked the 10km rafting and elephant care and were so impressed. Elephant care – we were worried about how this would be as their website has few details. But the place was great and seemed fully ethical. They have three older female elephants. The staff were very knowledgeable about the animals. You get to feed them and then accompany them on a slow walk through the over growth to the river and a mud bath. The company provide tasteful traditional clothes for everyone to put on (which look great in photos) – so no immodest cavorting in bikinis!Rafting – was amazing and exhilarating! This is a serious stretch of river, but the company were so professional and their approach to safety was above and beyond – for four rafts of 4-5 people, they had two safety kayaks and extra staff wading in the shallows by the biggest rapids. The guides were superp. Our guide was so swift in fishing my son out of the water when he was swept out of the boat mid-rapids and when two people came out of another raft he was right there throwing them a rope. As an unexpected extra, they had a guy taking photos from the bank. For an extra 500 baht, we got some awesome pictures mid rapids. Can’t recommend these guy highly enough!

  2. Went to visit the elephants first – the whole family loved this. Feeding, walking and washing the elephants was magical. The rafting was quite wild at times. It starts gentle with some swimming. When the rapids come the fun also arrives. We managed to capsize, which added to the adrenaline. We all found it amusing after reboarding the raft. The trip along the river is really beautiful – the two boys (14 and 16) loved the whole day.

  3. We booked the elephant & white water tour. The guys picked us up from the hotel at 7:30am in an air conditioned bus and it was about an hour and a half or so to the elephant sanctuary. I’d recommend preparing with snacks and drinks for the journey. We arrived at the elephant place and the guide there was very friendly and cracking jokes. He’s been an elephant guide for years and told us about the transition to the modern model and how he used to hate having to strap the elephants up with the seats. There’s no juvenile elephants at the sanctuary they’re all fairly old, but where are baby elephants being sanctuaried from these days.We got to feed the elephants breakfast and then they go for the morning walk, then cool off in the river and replace their mud coating. We just got to be part of that routine. The elephants are amazingly gentle and it was fantastic to get so close to them. After that we drove to the rafting start point for a buffet lunch which was simple but very nice. The rafting operation is incredibly professional and we’ll put together. The instructors where all friendly and they’re safety precautions are incredible. They have a team on the river banks at the challenging sections ready to pull out anyone who’s overboard or help collect dropped paddles and make sure no one gets hurt as well as the safety kayak. All equipment was well maintained. The route was 10k with some nice meandering sections where you can swim and then some decently challenging sections so you need to pay attention to the guide and do what they say quickly. All in all, a fantastic day out worth the price.

  4. Due to the nature of rapids, although we went perhaps 10km down the river, it felt like a short time spent on the rapids. Nevertheless, it was really fun and really got the adrenaline going. This felt like a proper team experience, even if initially went to this solo.Apart from the white water rafting itself, there were multiple opportunities to float/swim in the river and be carried by the current, if you wanted. As for the guides, the guides were experienced and fun — as they say: “no flip, no fun!!”. They were good at settling and sort of nerves which may have been present in anyone, as a result. The safety briefing was comprehensive, with the usual safety gear provided such as a life jacket and helmet.Throughout the rapids, there is a photographer which follows the raft down the rapids. The cost of these photos were 500 Baht between all of us in the group. I’d say the price-to-quality is worth it; more so if you’re sitting towards the front of the raft. The current itself when I went was quite strong, this was due to it being rainy season. The water itself was quite dirty/muddy i.e. brown, but that is due to the landscape and is frankly just something you have to deal with.Tips:1. Try to not go when it’s been heavy rain the previous day or two, otherwise you will have to skip one or two of the middle rapids because it would be too dangerous. We had to get of and walk a couple minutes down the road and got back on the raft.2. You will get really wet of course so wear footwear you don’t mind getting drenched and footwear that are secure and closed toed.

  5. we had THE MOST BEAUTIFUL experience one could ask from the jungle in thailand. we chose to do the elephant experience (literally super ethical but at the same time engaging), and the one day trekking across the jungle and crossing the mountains tribe villages (definitely challenging but 100% worth it) all coupled with one night in the jungle (best stay on the river surrounded by the wild but super comfy). Bigger plus all the staff members (all locals) are incredibly nice and welcoming and the food delicious and fresh (trust me i am italian). Hopefully we will come back soon to try the other activities!

  6. Great fun and great instructors. We had so much fun, but also felt really safe. The scenery and location is amazing. And the super lunch was just a bonus! This has been a big highlight of our trip to Thailand.

  7. Great day out for experienced and inexperienced kayakers/rafters. Really well looked after off the water in terms of transport and lunch. On the water, they run a brilliant safe trip, good equipment, solid experienced guides, they had additional bankside safety in place for the sporty sections. Surroundings are epic and there are elephants to be seen by the river side as you pass some flat sections. Staff are all very friendly. Highlight of a week spent in Chiang Mai.

  8. What a great day out, picked up on time at 9.30 around 2 hrs drive to the hills, lovely lunch then full safety briefing, 3hrs rafting then shower and home by 5pm. These guys really know their stuff they were great fun whilst being very safe, great job guys well done, we also saw many birds, butterfly and elephant on route. Thanks guys.

  9. I have been living in Chiang Mai for 2 years now and have tried a lot of the adventure companies but Siam River Adventures stands head and shoulders above the rest. Me, my brother (visiting from the UK) and our partners booked a day whitewater rafting with Siam having read the glowing reviews. I am very particular about safety, good organisation and competent staff so if any of these are not 100%, I will notice it. Fortunately everything about our whitewater rafting day was 100% in addition to the excellent rapport the staff built with us early in the day, which I think is important with a potentially dangerous activity. The team’s professionalism, friendliness and sublime skills at controlling the rafts were evident throughout the day. I can highly recommend this company and will be returning for more rafting with them in the near future.

  10. 10/10 “LODI” the tour guide is the best guide I have ever met out of the many adventures I have experienced he made this this trip something to remember for life.
