On a recent visit to Nakhon Phanom we rate the cycle-way as the best we have seen in Thailand. In Australia I was living along Morton Bay in Brisbane and it made me realise how much I miss cycling along with water in view. The cycle-way extends about 3 or 4 kms south of the city centre and we cycled about 6 km north before we stopped. It is definitely under extension with a new riverside road to the south of the city (past the River Hotel where we stayed) and seems to be under repair to the north. Most of the cycle-way is in pretty good condition but the sharing with pedestrians who are not used to cycle-ways is a cause for caution. We hired excellent bikes from a bike shop alongside the Indochina market building. He had plenty to choose from and the price was budget friendly, Our hotel had 4 quality bikes and I read that many hotels also have them.It was a great experience, I thoroughly recommend it as a way to get some exercise, enjoy the river views and visit the temples and buildings along the way. Oh and enjoy a cafe too, Coffee Wings a little to the south was our choice
I love an easy bicycle ? ? ride in the morning. Even better on a designated bike path, coupled with a natural landmark for a backdrop. Well the Nakhon Phanom Walking Street Bicycle Track ticks these boxes, plus others including curious architectural sights, cool cafes, friendly locals and modest (daytime) congestion. I was able to hire a bike from my hotel (Pornpiang) and looking forward to heading back soon.
Beautiful Mekong River and the cool feeling. Place feels nostalgic , many beautiful temples and great food. Loved the night market. Naga statue at the river was very beautiful especially in the evenings. Great place to be. Wish can be here for the boat festival in October.
