The region around Trang has some of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches and forests however when I drove down the main street of the city of Trang all I saw was a dirty little town with little to offer outside of a beautiful clock tower. We tried to find a nice restaurant however most of people just referred us to a local shopping centre. Your time would be better spent enjoying the natural beauty which surrounds Trang rather than visiting the town itself.
Clock towers like the one in Trang, are thirtheen in a dozen in Thailand. Nothing impressive, nothing special, just a small clock tower. When you are in Trang, you probably will see it, because it is situated in the centre of the the City 10 to 15 minutes walk from the train station.
Trang’s clock tower is located just east of the train station, at the intersection of two of the city’s major thoroughfares, Soi Visedkun and Soi Rama VI.Most of the time, you’d cruise by the tower with barely a second glance, but on New Year’s Eve, it’s the focal point for everyone in town. Thousands of people crowd around the clock tower for the countdown, and there are market stalls, a live stage and fireworks. This is THE place to be in Trang. If you do get there on New Year’s Eve, the south side is best if you want to see the fireworks.
This tower was decorated for Tete other wise it is a plain tower in the middle of the city. A good landmark for finding your way, we passed it on scooters it wasn’t worth stopping for.
This is a landmark of Trang. Compared to other clock towers in Thailand, this is just okay. Good for a quick picture but not worth a special trip.
