Banglamphu is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking , Thailand
With open air restaurants lining the streets among tattoo shops, massage parlours and stalls selling cheap clothes it feels more like a budget resort than big city. After a poor lunch I found the nice riverfront terrace of hotel River Surya to enjoy coffee with mango ice cream. Public transport covers this area poorly, if you want to avoid the polluting old busses the best option is the boat landing at Phra Sumen.
Bang Lamphu means Mangrove Apple, but the last apple trees disappeared some time ago. It is an old neighborhood, if not the oldest in the city near where the royal rulers resided. Most westerners know it because Khao San road is located here. Since the 1970s backbackers congregated at Khao San and the local population is quite used to them. The tourist area has expanded to most other parts of Banglamphu. In principle the further away from Khao San road, the better the deals for instance at Soi 4 off Samsen road. Most attractions like Wat Saket (Golden Mount) and Wat Suthat now charge foreigners for entering, though the park near Sumen fort is still free of charge.I wonder what will happen to the neigborhood once the MRT link is ready. So far the disadvantage was also an advantage as poor public transportation kept even bigger crowds of tourists away.
Great place to meet up with friends in Bangkok, great area for a walk by the river and access by the river ferry’s
Street food in the night at Banglumpoo where is next from Khaosan area that you can find the original Thai food. You must try all food here. Recommend
Every time we visit Thailand, we stay 3 days in Bangkok to overcome our jet lagged. My hubby and I love to visit different parts of this huge place and we are never disappointed with our findings. The food ? is always a plus. The people are awesome. O complains except (for me) the many many smells. It never last long.
There was so much construction in the area that the whole experience was underwhelming.Waste of time really. Perhaps after the finish it will have better look.
Nice to wander around in the day – very quiet and relaxed – some nice places to stop for coffee and food. Enjoyed it.
Shopping center in the Older Bangkok area. The place are full of shop houses selling all kinds of goods. Wondering into the small alley might bring you a delight surprise.
Had a really enjoyable day & night in the old backpacker area of Bangkok.Lots of changes after Covid, but a great atmosphere, good street food options & nightlife.
Thailand is an amazing place. I had been there years ago on business, but never spent any quality time there. I spent the last 6 months there as a tourist. The people are so friendly and everything from food to apartments are so inexpensive. My girlfriend is Thai and a great cook. I love her real Thai cooking and I have it almost everyday. I am sad to see America turning into such a embarrassing country. I will go back to Thailand for gy in August. Almost no crime and a nice place to live. I live in a suburb of Bangkok called Rangsit. My apartment is nice size for a one bedroom and cost $400 per month with power and water.
