Even if you have little interest in Model Railways, this attraction is worth a visit.Basically it is a ‘work in progress’ stemming on the passion and enthusiasm of the retired gentleman (Allan) originally from the UK.Usually Allan can be found pottering away here daily, but it is always recommended to call him first.Anyone is welcome to visit, so next time you have an hour or so to spare while in Mahasarakham, pop in. An expat from the UK, Alan has immersed himself in his hobby (or passion) for model railways, capturing something of the 1950’s in Yorkshire. Alan has more ‘rolling stock’ in little locomotives & carriages than his laid out rail line can accommodate, despite an innovative figure of eight arrangement that can surprise & delight the viewer.The model buildings all capture something of ones that really exist in the UK while giving a sense of a community in the coalfields.This display may leave Thai nationals bewildered but can transport farang to childhood memories.
Friends of mine living in Maha Sarakham mentioned a model railway museum was in the city, run by an Englishman. Intrigued I went along and true enough a terrific guy called Alan has built an amazing, authentic, and large working model railway spanning some 250 sq yards of track with multiple running locos, with many more on shelves around the ‘shop’, which is signposted on his street. Alan welcomes everyone who pays him a visit, and shares both his knowledge and hospitality freely. I strongly recommend seeking him out.
