There is nothing special in this lake except for its vastness. However, the water here is clean. Also visitors can visit Don Sawan nearby.
This lake is huge and beautiful because it’s scale. But along the swamps is bad organized , dirty , full of water hyacinth.
This large lake alongside sakon nakhon city is well worth a visit. A restful boat trip for just 100thb per person ( or 500thb for the boat with driver) is a must do. The trip throught the water hyacinth, to the small island with Buddha shrines takes about 90 minutes. Walk around the island on the small path among the trees, visit the shrinesand observe the large expanse of water.
Nong Han is a large body of water, especially for the dry Northeastern part of Thailand. In some places you have to squint to see the far side. In our experience the best place to see it is at that Nong Han viewpoint, on the road towards Nakhon Phanom. Here there are boardwalks which lead out through the rushes and lily pads to a small island. You get to see cranes, ducks and other water birds. There is a fair bit of water hyacinth (an invasive weed) but overall there’s enough lilies and bird life to make it worthwhile.
Ban Chiang is a renowned archaeological site in Nong Han District, Udon Thani Province, Thailand. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1992.Very good information and laid out exhibits
Nong Han lake is the largest “natural” lake in Thailand. To me, it’s the largest “pond” not “lake” since its mostly shallow, full of lily pads and it’s best not to swim in it due to an infestation of cancer-causing parasites. But it’s picturesque with various old villages around the lake. If you have time, take an early boat ride to one of the island. Sakon Nakhon city has a large park & exercise trail next to the lake,
