Wat Mano Phirom is an Isaan-style sim (wat) which is most rare these days. It is a treasure trove of arts and crafts from the vernacular architecture tradition. Combining excellent wood-carving, glass inlay work and stucco, it is a very impressive example of a folk temple. Most of what you see today dates from a restoration after a fire in the early years of the 20th century. It is one of only a handful of temples in this style which have made it into the modern world. Highlights include the capitals with their bright paint and glass inlay and the Lao-style Buddha enshrined inside the temple. The temple also has a magnificent location on the Mekong River.
