Chiangmai Art on Paper (C.A.P.) is a printmaking studio and centre for creativity in Chiang Mai, specializing in original art prints, etching, wood cut, lithograph, and relief print. The studio produces limited edition, hand-made prints in collaboration with Thai and international artists. I stopped by for a quick tour and demonstration of the various techniques by the studio’s owner, Kitikong, who was very gracious and kind. Some of the works were also available for purchase. Overall, a great opportunity to learn behind the scenes of lithography and get introduced to talented local artists.
Fine printmaking at its finest! They staff is friendly and the owner Kong speak English very well. They have a great variety of works to see and something to fit every budget. This is the perfect place to get an education in printmaking or pick up a wonderful souvenir from your time in Thailand. We went twice in the 10 days we were in Chiang Mai!
I stopped here with the intention of a 10-15 minute stop among the other art galleries in the area. 3 hours later, I walked away with an experience I will never forget. This gallery is bursting with original work and the studio was humming the whole time creating more masterpieces. The staff didn’t speak English very well, but their friendliness, passion, and enthusiasm was incredible. They explained the history of their gallery/studio and the artists themselves showed us their work. We left with several prints that have taken prominent places in the house and I wish I had purchased more. It’s easy to see why these artists are breaking out and creating names for themselves all over the world.Call ahead to make sure the gallery/studio is open the date and time you wish to visit. Don’t rush yourself, as you’ll want to spend a lot of time looking and learning about the incredible work being done here. Plenty of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and art galleries are nearby.
C.A.P. Studio offers a wonderful heart-warming place for all art enthusiasts. Ajarn Kong (teacher Kitikong) has a gentle consultant soul whom love helping people. He is kind enough to give me (and every visitor) a tour of his studio and introduced to every single staff of his. The place offers fine-art printmaking, woodblocking prints, etching, lithograph. A true must visit destination. Ajarn Kong is very knowledgeable in all arts areas (whether its process such as painting restoration, installation, logistic, archive system and other management area). He is one of a kind. A true gentleman with genuine character :). Thank you Ajarn Kong and Team.
Y’all! Where to even begin? We love to buy art from local artists when we travel. We purchased work from JOJO KOBE Art Gallery in 2015 — two of which were screen prints from an artist named Kitikong. Fast forward to this current trip in 2022 and we happen to stumble into C.A.P. Studio based off of proximity to where we happened to be at the time. Immediately the experience is amazing — a super nice guy takes us around the four-story building telling us all about the studio and its artists. On one of the floors, artists were actually in the middle of the creative process. We decided we are going to buy pieces from this place, so two of the folks working there start pulling out piece after piece of incredible artwork. We narrow it down to three pieces — and ultimately choose work from an artist from Bangkok (Thanonchai Sornsriwichai) that had done a residency at C.A.P. Studio. They start to wrap up the piece are going to purchase and the owner of the studio comes down and starts chatting with us and shares the super cool story about the artist who created the piece we just purchased. We share our little art story from our last visit in Chiang Mai and the owner says…that’s me, I am Kitikong. Y’ALL!!!! My husband and I both weep when we re-tell this story. It was such a wild and wonderful experience for us…I mean what are the odds? Both pieces are at the framers and we cannot wait to add these incredibly special pieces to our home.
