Phra That In Kwaen is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Doi Tham Hin, Thailand
Phrathat In Kwaen, the Golden Rock, is a little known but quite lovely attraction, definitely off the beaten track, in rural Lamphun province. It has the same name as the more famous one in southeast Myanmar and resembles it, but is actually two big gilded rocks on a cliff atop Doi Tham Hin. To get there you drive a car or motorbike south on the Chiang Mai-Lampang highway to the Pasak junction just beyond Lamphun and turn right (west). Follow this road about ten km, passing a PTT petrol station to the Nong Lum intersection and turn left (south). Soon you will see a turn to the right with a sign showing a picture of the site and arrows. Follow this dirt road about three km to the foot of Doi Tha Hin. From here it’s a 15 minutes walk up a path with statues of devotees lining each side. Near the top are large statues of the 3rd century B.C. monk Upakhu, with one hand in his begging bowl, and a seated Buddha. Large Buddha ‘footprints’ are also in the vicinity. A little further up is the main shrine and the balanced rocks, with a small chedi on top. You also have a great view of the mountainous rural scenery from here.
Do no follow goggle map to this location marked in english.Follow instead the location mark in Thai วัดพระพุทธบาทพระธาตุอินทร์แขวน nearby. There is some changes to the route so follow the signs when you come to a small village. It will that you through gravel roads. No easy to find but worth the effort. Nice peaceful place and great photo stop.
It was a fun experience. We visited the site in Burma too. However, it is located in Phrae Province, not Lamphun Province.
