Phra That Phu Phek is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
One has to climb up 491 steps to reach this hilltop, and the last 50 steps or so is very steep. Once you reach the top of this hill, you will come across a very peaceful forestry area with this half-finished pagoda. At this moment there isn’t much facilities on top of that hill although the temple that’s responsible for its upkeep is trying to built proper washrooms on the hill.
Phra That Phu Phek 20 km west of Sakon Nakhon city and 9 km south of Route 22.The small ancient sandstone 8 meter high stupa is on a rectangular laterite base. An energetic climb up 491 steps to the top from the temple buildings and car park is well worth the exercise. The quiet location and beautiful views make this a must see when visiting Sakon Nakhon. This rural temple and ruin is surrounded by many trees on a hill side overlooking the Sakon Nakhon countryside
