Kohkood Princess is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
Ko Kut (or Koh Kood as it is often spelled) is a small island on the Thai-Cambodia maritime border that is mostly covered with virgin tropical rain forest. Many small resorts, hotels and homestays hug its its coastal fringes, especially on the west coast, which faces the open Gulf of Thailand.Apart from hiring a private speed boat, the only way to get to Ko Kut is by Koh Kood Princess ferry boats, which depart once a day from Laem Sok in Thailand’s south-eastern-most province of Trat. The journey is 41.8 km and takes about 90 minutes. Our ferry had a lower air-conditioned deck and an upper open air desk. We chose the open air and enjoyed the trip across a calm sea.The ferry pulls into Ao Salad, an old Thai fishing village on the north east of the island, and this is the gateway through which hundreds of thousands of tourists pass each year looking for their own special piece of paradise. The fare one way is Baht 350, but you get a discount if you buy your return ticket at the same time i.e. Baht 600.
We were provided by our 5 star resort to travel to the island by the Koh Kood Princess Ferry. The ferry is old and the cabin was filled with diesel smell. These one are 150THB per person per way and stops at Ao Salat (Salat Bay) pier, which is at least another 20-40 minutes ride to most resorts. If possible, opt for their speedboat ferry which is around 600THB The speedboat ferry can also take you closer to your resort by stopping at the smaller piers along the island.
This won’t apply to you if you arrive without your own wheels…When you turn up and park outside (on the verge of the public road), a member of staff working for Princess will come up to you and ask you to park your motorbike or car on their property. No charge is mentioned and it is only once you’ve parked and walked back to the office that they will ask you to pay. So you then have the choice of going back over to your vehicle and moving it back onto the road, or pay. Unsurprisingly I suspect most people pay. It’s 50 baht a day. They must be making a decent amount on the parking for doing absolutely nothing. It’s a bit of a joke because your vehicle isn’t going to be any safer there than it would be on the road. Turn up yourself in the afternoon, evening or night and see if they have any security watching the carpark. I did and they didn’t.Next time I’ll drive further down the road towards the pier where there’s loads of unused concrete space where you could park. Then walk back.
As noted in previous reviews the only way to get to Koh Kood is by ferry / speedboat. With a young child we opted for the ferry. The day we travelled to Koh Kood it was rough seas. As a result we were slightly greener by the time we got to Koh Kood. The lower level was air conditioned and had comfy seats. The upper deck was wooden benches but great views (on clam days). Getting on / off the ferry is via a narrow gangplank which is a short step, but can be interesting in rough seas. Our child was sick (narrowly beating his father by a few minutes) and thankfully we had some sick bags as our child currently has a tendency to be sick unexpectedly on airplanes. A kind group of Thai nationals helped us clean our son up and suggested a smelling vapor stick, Poh-Sian. Easily found in pharmacies in Thailand. A sniff of this healed both father and son. In short if you’re prone to travel sickness take some sick bags and look into the Poh-Sian stick, especially if traveling in monsoon season (April-October).
We travelled to Koh Kood from Laem Sok pier with this company. They were most efficient and helpful. The fares are reasonably priced and the journey comfortable.
hello i ve been travelling fro trat to kho kut several times and this company is the worst one. very old boat, no seat on the upper deck all around you can see is very aged boat and noisy! i advise to take kho kut express instead better boat! the transfer in tuck tuck was dreadful the speed of the driver was crazy I hope they will do something about this matter because is very unsafe to go in this open van at this speed!i was almost vomiting ! the boat took 1 h more than expected!
Hot full ferry- Lots of missed coordination trying to get to the island – not a comfortable boat either- but it got us there
Comfortable, safe, fast ferry. Would have given them a 5 star review, but I wasn’t impressed when I saw their employees throwing cigarette butts in the ocean–not cool.
Great professional service. Cuts travel time from Pattaya to Hua Hin by half. Easy to book online. Allocated seating. Free water given. Was half empty when we travelled. Smooth and in time crossing
From Koh Kood, they will pick you up from your hotel to the pier. The boat is air-conditioned and the seats are quick large and comfortable. During the high season, the sea is quite calm so it was a smooth ride. When arrived at the Trat pier, there would be shared truck-taxi already waiting to pick up the arriving passengers to drop them off to their designation (not free). I did not see there were any standard taxis around. In fact, there is nothing there when there is no boat. So if you prefer to have your own transportation or don’t want to ride on the truck-taxi, you must arrange you private transfer in advance.
