  1. this is a lovely place for a family day out, walking around the dam or just eating food and relaxing, there are many parts to this place so make sure you head for the main dam wall area, you can also go to the floating restaurant area, and eat food, you can also hire a large barge that will take you out onto the dam,and travel around while enjoying food.great for parties.

  2. We booked a large boat on the lake for family and friends. It was a great 4-5 hours with food, drink and kareoke (I even sang a Ying Lee classic). Great value for money and a great day had by all. We paid about 3000baht plus food and drink and there were 30+ of us on the boat. Great views and great weather. If you are a farang I recommend you go with a Thai person to ensure you get the best price.

  3. The golf course at Ubolratana is simply beautifully maintained and designed. Not too hard but slightly challenging. And so cheap! You’ll get your own caddy, cheap balls along the way if you loose yours in the numerous water hazards. And street food and drinks as well. Golf cars are available as well. If you play in the afternoon, you’ll also catch the beautiful sunset. Simply amazing!

  4. It is a nice place just to sit down and relax. Looking at the dam gives you a feeling of peace. There is also a golf course.

  5. Very natural course, not fancy but inexpensive. Not easy at all. Nice caddies. Good cheap food. Very Thai. Can expect 5 and 6 balls! Lots of mature trees provide shade. Lots of water. Very enjoyable.

  6. Apart from the golf course, the Ubolratana Dam site also offers accomodation ! Ask for “SATTAYABAN 2” at the entrance gate … The building is opposite to the “Ubolratana Courtyard”, where you can also find a shop (open till 18pm) and a tourist information office. We paid 500 THB for a room – clean, airco, fridge, super quiet, twin beds. The restaurant is within walking distance. There is also accomodation available a bit further uphill – a 500m steep climb – and these rooms go for 800 THB. Only saw this from the outside, as the place up there was pretty empty at our time of visit. We stayed overnight on a weekday and enjoyed the tranquility. Just did some easy walking – slightly uphill on the other side of the dam incl. a Buddha statue. If you turn left just before you reach the Sattayaban 2, you end up at a nice Wat with another Buddha statue upon a hill. All in all a nice way to make a stopover for a more than relaxing night/afternoon.

  7. We took a mornings Car trip from Khon Kaen centre up to the Ubon Ratana Dam. We went the long way and entered from the South all along the Dam on our left hand side for approx 35 Kms – Terriffic. Then we entered the Dam guarded area ( Thai’s had to submit their Driving License to enter – but they did not ask me for mine! ) The Dam grounds are really, really well looked after. It was a pleasure to drive and easy to find a car park with great dual language signs everywhere. At what they call the “Dam Edge” is a Restaurant \ Coffee Shop – great friendly service and an elevated view to die for. This attraction left us NOT Disappointed AT ALL – A Real WINNER

  8. By damming the Chee River the King provided land for 100,000 plus Isaan farmers. This source of water, irrigation, fishing and sightseeing is orth a visit. The turnoff is 30 kilometers from Khon Kaen then another 25 to the dam head. Alfresco dining is available. Visit both the left then the right sides of the dam for great views. The young can climb up to the white Buddha while the not-young can be driven .

  9. Really great views, it’s not often that I come to rest around here. This time, I have come a little far away. Follow him and take a break. Talking about the atmosphere, it’s awesome. The weather is good. Even if it’s the best. Breathe in the fresh air to fill your lungs, very refreshing. The surrounding area is very suitable if you come to stay for several days.??

  10. When I visited here, is Rain season of Thailnad so dam nearly full. It seems like a big lake or small sea. And you may see scenery as half lake in big rain but another half in sunny.
