  1. Wat Phra Bat Kham is about 50 kilometers from Khon Kaen, the terrain hilly with the famous white Buddha presiding at the top.It is said that if you climb the hundreds of the steps up to the Temple, you receive a special blessing. The steps up to the Temple are guarded by 2 Payanak ( multi headed serpents revered in Thailand) I chickened out and went by car up the scenic road to the temple overlooking Ubolratana Lake.It is a wonderfully spiritual temple and very beautiful inside. The views are spectacular and the climate moderate with soft winds. A welcome change from the city heat.If you like temples this one is a must see.

  2. Before visit Ubol Ratana Dam, there are a hug of white Buddha, the centre of faithfulness of people in Ubolratana city and Khon Kaen.A long and steep staircase leads up to Wat Phra Bat Phu Pan Kham on the eastern side of Ubonrat Lake. A huge white Buddha image overlooks the site and from here one has a great view over the huge lake on one side and the rice fields on the other side. Recommend visiting period: Winter Season, Mid of April – Songkran Festival & early morning & before sunset. Don’t forget to bring camera for shooting very nice view before sunset, umbrella & walking shoes is required for thousand steeps staircase

  3. Beautiful Buddha walked about tousands steps to go up. .so high but the views are worth the effort especially by sunset

  4. Its a way from the city, around 50km or so and the road to the temple is not really signposted (or none that I could see). I came here last year and stopped off for lunch by the reservoir entrance but this time it was closed, so we waited until later and ate a hearty meal in the restaurant in the reservoir grounds. The temple is towered over by a huge white buddha, which can be seen from miles away (as you approach). I have to say that this temple, as are most in Thailand, is not very accessible. Myself with walking issues found the steps and inclines difficult. However that is not a fault of the temple, it is quite common throughout.Once inside, the decor is ornate and typical of Thai temples. Don’t forget to strike the gong three times for luck, and ring the bells to ward off bad spirits. The view is magnificent – the reservoir and surrounding countryside. If you go around to the steps side, difficult to do with no shoes and scorching hot marble floors, the view down is fantastic. Don’t forget to turn and look upwards at the buddha. If you’re fit enough you should walk up the steps, but if not then walk down them. Of course you can drive up the winding road. There’s a secluded area to the right (or behind the statue) where you can sit and meditate or enjoy to cool air. There are toilets and, usually, refreshment vendorsby the way I have made a short video of our visit if you want to view it, search for soyoukan channel on youtube.

  5. This temple is hard to find so here are the coordinates for a Satnav N16.76364– E102.61957. The temple is beautiful with outstanding views over Ubolratana dam and the surrounding countryside, if you wish you can park at the bottom of the mountain and walk up a long staircase to the temple or you can drive up the mountain, not a bad idea on a hot day, if you drive up one to one and a half hours will be plenty but if you walk up two to two and a half hours will be needed

  6. You can climb up the steps to the beautiful Buddha or ride up in the car. You have amazing views across the countryside from the Buddha. We took off our shoes and went in to the area under the Buddha. We had a blessing from a monk. He ties a bracelet on to a man but gets one of your friends to tie it on you if you are a women. Well worth the effort to visit.

  7. Most be physically fit to walk the stairs. I thought worth it.Stop along the way to stack rocks and brace the rock with a small stick.

  8. Great place to visit and a MUST for visitors travelling in Isaan. The many steps up to the holy temple can be reached by a small road by your own car or local transport service. The view up from the hill top is taking your breath.

  9. Wat Phra Bat Phu Pan Kham maybe famous by “thousand ladders”. Come to here you can see Isan plain view in one side, In another side, you will see Ubolratana Dam. Beautiful scenery, really worthy to have a visit.
