Wongwan Strawberry Farm is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 253 Moo 9, Thailand
This is the second time we have visited Wongwan Strawberry Farm. The strawberries are very sweet and delicious. Its a 1 hour car drive away rom Chiang Mai but if you have a car, the scenery on the drive through the mountains is spectacular. There is a cafe on site and the strawberry smoothies are the best I have ever tasted, full of fruit and just 50 baht.On the previous visit, I bought some of their home made strawberry jam which was delicious but this time, it was very disappointing and a waste of money. More like runny gloop than jam.
The owners are very kind and very nice people. The strawberries are very fresh and tasty without chemical. You should use Maerim Road!!! Better than Hangdong Road. I prefer you to visit in November-February. This farm is great for everyone you, your family, your friends and your children
It takes quite abit of effort to get here. We drove for slightly over an hour from the city, over windy mountain roads, to get to the farm. As someone who enjoys my driving, I loved that journey, but I can also imagine people who are prone to motion sickness might not feel the same way. The experience at the destination was however totally worth it!The farm was decorated to appeal to the children. The kids had fun running to the various colourful fixtures and then asking to take pictures with them. It was nice to see them running around amongst the greenery and enjoying their time outdoors. As with regular farms of this nature, the kids got the opportunity to pick their own strawberries. The elderly couple running the farm were very friendly, and handed out buckets from their seats behind the counter (they were not as mobile as many other farm owners, but understandably) with big smiles on their faces. They could not speak much English, but the big smiles and warm gestures were more than enough hospitality we needed. Most endearing! With the buckets, the kids went off in search of strawberries. We might have arrived a little late in the morning, as there were not too many big juicy specimens of the fruit left to pick. However, we did manage about 10 from the more obscure corners, which was all we wanted, really. Just 2 fruits per person for tasting – we were not keen to bring any back as our hotel provided us with plenty of fruits in the room each day, and our flight was not until 3 days later. To our surprise, the elderly couple (still with the warmest smiles on their faces) packed the 10 strawberries for us in a small plastic bag, and then gestured it was a treat for the kids – they did not want us to pay anything for those! The strawberries were much sweeter than what we had expected, even those which appeared less ripe. Not wanting to take advantage of the elderly couple’s kindness, we bought some drinks, as well as half a dozen bottles of their home-made jam, and were again pleasantly surprised by how reasonably-priced those items were. There is also a cafe/restaurant in the farm, although we did not take lunch there as we had already made other plans in advance. Our entire family spanning 3 generations loved this visit to the farm. We recommend it to anyone who does not mind the drive. While you are there, do also support the friendly, honest, and kind couple running the farm by purchasing some of their products. You are unlikely to be disappointed.
