Phala Beach is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thanom Phala Ban Chan, 21000, Thailand
Phala Beach (Hat Phala in Thai) is potentially one of the best beaches in Rayong Province, about 170 km south each of Bangkok. It has a long curved silver sand beach, with beautiful clear blue water, backed by shady Casuarina Pine trees. Street vendors serve snacks and cold drinks if you care to sit on the beach or in the shade of the trees.Unfortunately the beach is littered with rubbish from one end to the other – polystyrene, plastic bags and bottles, cans, glass, and other assorted flotsam and jetsam. On the beach service road is a large sign which in English reads “Big Clean Up” and goes on in Thai to explain that each Wednesday there is a clean up of the beach and calls for volunteers to help. It is obviously not working, for the rubbish on this beach has been there for weeks, if not months. It is a wonder that some of the resorts, including the upmarket Phala Beach Resort (which is subject to other reviews on TripAdvisor) do not do something about it, for it must affect the popularity of this beach as a tourist attraction. If ever this beach is cleaned up and I revisit it, it will rate at least four stars.
My wife liked this beach because it was not far from where we were, and it was quiet. There were some restaurants next to the public beach, and we could be on the sand. The water cleanliness was not that great, judging from plain eyes, but still some locals enjoyed it. However, there was not much space for strolling or sunbathing.
The beach is very popular among Thais and expat during the weekend. It is a good place for picnic and seafoods dishes. There is no public transport to this beach so you need to hire a bike or car to reach it.
Phala Beach is one of three beaches in the Ban Chang District of Rayong Province, the others being Payun Beach and Nam Rin Beach. While Phala beach has some good seafood restaurants, the beach itself is almost always littered with plastic bags, polystyrene containers, bottles, cans and other flotsam and jetson. Four of us had lunch today at a restaurant right on the beach , but even here the owners had made no attempt to clean up the garbage strewn right at our feet,.
This could be a lovely beach if not for the rubbish on it and the Thais do absolutely nothing about it except to add more litter the fisherman are the worst. The only effort made to clean it are the staff at the Lord Nelson hotel .
Its quite mix feeling for me who temporary live here in Rayong. Wanted to checked out local beach and this beach is nice in a way of local but am i impressed ? nope.
Beach seemed cleaner than previous posts suggest. Very relaxing few beers and two dishes from the menu. My Thai friends were told that sitting would be free if we ordered two dishes. Tod man gung and a salad were ordered along with 3 large Heinekens Bill was 910 baht. No eating utensils provided with either dish. Beware.
We arrived to our run down hotel, firstly needed to move rooms due to no air con. Anyway decided to walk down to the beach-!!!! Well yes ummm what can I say, you can’t walk it due to the rubbish and you can’t walk it due to the rock and cliff. If you want a quiet peaceful break head to an island. Plus this place is in the middle of nowhere with no buses or tuk tuk, so the hotel rips you off bad
Nice area to visit and to enjoy street food; several restaurants. Typical local atmosphere. Just drive there and breath the atmosphere. Beach not super clean as on the picture
