  1. For the price that I’m paying, this is a very nice collection of things from Phuket’s past. I think there were around close to 1000 pieces displayed here – so definitely worth a trip to those looking to walk into history. There’s a nice cafe here too, I sat there for hours.

  2. Spent nearly an hour here walking through room after room of things from the last 100 years or so of Phuket history. Things more or less like the other are grouped, and there is some signage, most with English translations, but it would really benefit from some serious curation. There are very large old movie projectors (several!), large printing presses, mining equipment from Phuket’s tin mining days, large brass ship propellers, even 3 rooms of toys. Maybe not all high quality but some gems, like old 1960s battery-powered robots. It is interesting in a “holy cow, where did grandpa find this?” way, if you ever wandered into your grandpa’s old barn. And the story of the man whom collected these things and founded the hotel is a good one. An interesting look into old Phuket history, you just need some curiosity and to do some work when you visit.

  3. Very cool museum with lots of antiques from the personal collection of the Thavorn family, including mining equipment, household items, etc. Spent a good amount of time walking around the museum and was interesting to learn about the history of Phuket.

  4. I was deeply moved by each item displayed in the museum. This is because, as I looked at each object, I had the opportunity to revisit my childhood, and these items vividly illustrate the joys and pains that people, including those from Thailand and across Asia, have experienced and embraced in their growth.

  5. Cool museum with lots of items collected over the years. It does a great job of showing what Phuket was like over the years – definitely worth a visit!

  6. Recently renovated museum in town. If you like culture and history or if you want a break from the sun during the day, this is the place to visit. Location: The museum is located next to Coffee Talk Old Town – a huge cafe that has AC and clean bathroom. Cost: 120 baht Best part: The museum is a private collection but shows basically the entire history of Phuket because it was collected by an old family who operated the first service hotel in Phuket. The museum is recently renovated so it is very well organised and quite intriguing. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants an enriching experience in Phuket. Aside from their beautiful oceans, you will get to appreciate how this city grew in the past 5 decades.

  7. We found out the museum finished renovating by Jan 2024, and we came back to visit. We were pleasantly surprised with the experience. It is definitely the largest Phuket museum because it was large, focused on Phuket’s very early industries + Tin Mining. It is very good to have a large cultural local attraction in Phuket Old Town. Fun Fact, it is inside Phuket’s first full service hotel, Thavorn Hotel. We recommend people visiting Phuket to check it out. You get value for your money with what is shown in this museum.

  8. I went here in December when visiting Phuket for my holidays, and this museum told me so much about Phuket’s history and had so many artefacts. It was very well made with a nice little cafe next to it, which was great for some refreshment before I went off to my next destination.

  9. We found this museum while walking through Phuket Old Town and decided to go in for a quick visit. The museum houses an extensive private collection of artifacts that show cases the way of life of people in Phuket from the old days. It was very cool to see all the different types of equipments and tools that people back then used in their daily lives and see how far we’ve come, and the most impressive part was probably all the artifacts related to the mining industry in Phuket — super interesting to see. Worth a visit, so happy we did, it was such a cool experience and worth the money!

  10. The coffee shop had a good selection of food. Coffee was satisfying. You must checkout the museum. I spent an hour in there learning about the history of the hotel as well as the mining industry in Phuket. Many of the artifacts brought back memories of being a kid. My father had many of the same tools on the farm. It was really cool to see how someone could preserve so many unique artifacts.

  11. Good museum. Not too big. Indoor so not too hot either. Takes about 30 minutes to take the tour. Excellent collection of old and antique stuff. Well designed flow of movement. It also is inside the Coffee Talk Cafe in Old Town Phuket. They serve great coffee and snacks. You’ll probably end up spending more on the coffee in terms of time and money. But worth the experience.
