this place is venue for annual festival (4th mount making merits).there is light and sound performance about Buddha story : Veddhsandorn episode).the public park will be decorated with traditional flags and popcorn rice garlands.there is also venue for merit processions and exhibitions about Buddha epics. there is fountain performance with lights and music.it’s cool place.
It’s a nice 1.5 km walk around the man made pond. Great for exercising & walking the dog. A shame the pond is so filthy dirty & can’t swim. The water is milky green & Im sure quite contaminated. Have seen bloated dead fish, snapping turtles & of course plastic trash floating. A main attraction in Roi Et.
The park is a great place to for activities, especially for those young at heart. There are paddle boats for rent, playgrounds, fitness area, and picnic areas. Late afternoons, there are aerobic sessions and people run or bike around the lake. Around the lake, there are also plenty of local eateries and bakeries. Like at Bang Pu (Samut Prakarn), the tradition of ball room dancing is also kept alive on certain evenings. The city pillar and monuments honoring members of the royal family are also found in the area, so although not an amazing architectural masterpiece, the lake and park are the center of many communal activities and well worth a visit (unless you are just rushing through Roi Et to reach another destination) for people who wish to take a relaxed stroll while taking in a bit of local life.
Bueng Phlan Chai is an artificial lake, located right in the heart of Roi-et town. In the middle of the lake is an island with a park called “Bueng Phlan Chai Park” or “City Park”. Do not confuse it with Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park which is located 100 metres south of the lake, across the parking lot.Bueng Phlan Chai Park is the number one local recreational area. People come here to relax with their kids. There is a playground for children, basketball courts, a fitness park and boat rentals. Many extensive lawns are well maintained and people use them for a picnic. On one of these lawns you can find the obligatory Buddha statue, which helps the people to overcome their superstition. The City Pillar, which is depicted on the Roi Et provincial seal is located in a shrine in the southern part of the island.There are no vehicles allowed in Bueng Phlan Chai Park, except for a little tractor train (some call it a tram) that drives visitors around the island. I don’t even remember seeing any bicycles in the park. Three bridges lead onto the island: A big one from the parking lot and two smaller foot bridges.Translation of the name:“Bueng” means lake, “Phlan” means field and “Chai” means victory.I was not able to figure out the complete meaning of these three words combined, or the event in history they refer to. The words “Victory Field” probably refer to an ancient battle that took place here. If you figure it out the meaning, let me know for I am always interested in the translations of names and where they come from.The same as in many other small towns, here you have got many places in walking distance.Right opposite to the lake, along the ring-road you’ll find:- The Roi Et Municipal Aquatic Animals Center, or: Roi Et Aquarium- The Provincial Post Office- Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park- The beautiful Wat Bueng Phra Lan ChaiWithin 5 minutes of walking there is:- Monument of Phra Khattiyawongsa (the first ruler of Roi Et)- Wat Nuea (even though this temple is omitted in most things-to-do-lists it is well worth a visit!)Only 10 minutes by foot is:- Wat Buraphaphiram (with the tall standing Buddha statue)- The Roi Et National Museum- Roi Et Plaza (a small shopping mall)All in all, Bueng Phlan Chai Lake & Park are very well maintained and family friendly with many excellent photo opportunities. It could be the centre for a nice day in Roi Et, with many tourist attractions nearby. Highly recommended!
This beautiful city park represents the community pride the locals have for their city. Newly renovated, it has bicycle lanes, jogging & walking paths around the park, plus a fitness center and a large modern playground for children. No litter is seen anywhere ( unlike some other parks ) and no smoking aloud. There are newly built wheel-chair ramps built around the park. ( unheard of in other cities) Well kept grounds and park buildings.
Located in the middle of town this is a lake for everybody. Good walkways, exercise machines and a cycle lane that is one mile round. Well lit. Nice bars and restaurants by the roadside. Peaceful. I cycle 4 miles everyday.
Nice place to exercise and lots of play areas for kids to enjoy. Also basketball court and some temples to look at as well.
This park is a magnificent feature which would grace any city centre. It features a lake with islands having paths & bridges crossing the water and greenery around.
I am impressed that the Roi Et government has seen fit to make such a beautiful park near the city center. Outside of the parks in Bangkok such as Lumpini Park, I haven’t seen a Thai park as good as this. Any major city in the world would be impressed to have a park like this. We were here in the day and it was so pleasant to stroll around, People told me that it’s beautiful at night but the sign said that it closes at 20.00. But it does open at 4.00 for the early fitness crew and walkers. The children’s playground is exceptionally good and there are some beautiful trees such as banyans (the Buddha tree} and fig trees. The Giant Buddha is impressive but the surrounds are rather plain and sterile. There is a biking circuit but in the middle of the day must have been too hot for the cyclists. The park was very clean but the lake was suffering from rainy season and was pretty green
Since 4-5 years ago, the city officials have been renovating this city park to make it one of the best in Thailand. The locals seem to take pride in not littering and keeping their community clean. Unlike many cities, the locals respect the rules and do not drive or park on the designated bike lane that follows the circular street and promenade around the park. Most walkways, fountains, recreation buildings and restrooms at this nicely landscaped park have been upgraded. Unfortunately the lack of building codes of the concrete buildings ( different heights and ugly architecture) and the two towering communication towers around the perimeter of the park interferes with the park’s scenic location.
