It will take some time to go up the hill, but surely worth it. At the end of November, the air is much cooler and fresher. The locals are friendly and glad to help you. You will have fun there.
I organised the homestay in the village via the Phumanee Lahu Home Hotel in Fang:https://www.tripadvisor.at/Hotel_Review-g1888241-d1862514-Reviews-Phumanee_Home_Hotel-Fang_City.htmlThe program was as follows:Picking up by car at the Phumanee hotel in Fang.Visit of the Pu Muen waterfall, which is very nice.Bamboo lunch in the village – I helped preparing the meal and really enjoyed the food.Tea picking: For me as a tea lover it was very fascinating to learn how the tea is picked, roasted, tumbled and dried – the smell of the fresh Assam tea was impressive.Overnight stay in a bamboo hut: They prepared a mattres with mosquito net and provided some blankets. However, it was a bit smoky in the hut as they also cooked in the hut. Additionally the toilet was outside the hut and there was no shower, only a tab. So the accomodation was a bit like on scout camp…Hike with my village guide Yo to the Doi Pha Hom Pok (2285), the second highest mountain in Thailand. From the village it is ca. 1000 m altitude difference and 8 km (and not 14 km like it is stated on other posts on Tripadvisor). It took us about 2.5 h to get to the summit, from where you have a wonderful view on the region and into Myanmar. But we hiked fast, so please calculate more time if you plan your trip.Hike back to the villageTransfer by car to the hotel in Fang.I had a nice time with the village people and especially with Yo, my village guide. They really cared about me and prepared very delicious food. However, nobody in the village spoke English, i.e. we could only communicate non-verbal, which was a special experience for me. I really would have liked to discuss with the village people about their way of life, history and culture. After my return I reported this observation to the staff of the Phumanee Lahu hotel in Fang.Price of the homestay:Before the homestay Yok, the hotel manager, told me the total price of the homestay which surprised at me first. But after she explained me the split up I found it reasonable:Transfer in a new 4×4 pick-up: 1500 THBBamboo lunch: 500 THBHomestay with dinner, breakfast and lunch: 600 THBLocal guide to Doi Pha Hom Pok – no English, no license: 800 THBAltogether I paid 3400 THB. Of course, if you are more persons it will be less per person.Summarized it was a nice experience but I highly recommend to ask for an English speaking guide in the village if you cannot speak Thai or Lahu.
