  1. Amazing views of the sunset…Songtels to the top 25Bt , plenty of paces in the village to eat. and drink BUT visit MON – THURSDAY if you can as very crowded at th etop .

  2. Short distance outside Chiang Khan, easy drive to the tuk tuks that take you up the hill. All new SUVs so no lumps or bumps on the way up or down. Small fee, see this as a local tax, however the service was very good and locals very friendly. Breakfast or hot snacks available before sunrise which was nice. We were there in early December and temp was about 20deg C so very comfortable.

  3. It is a must do if you are in Isaan in the winter time this place is busy on the weekends 5:30 to 6am is the best time to go up the mountain .

  4. Not so far from Chiangmai Khan city, jumped to Skylab – local Tuk Tuk 🙂 (modified motocycle) and took a pick-up (well.., take a walk if you like hiking) to Phu Thog .. Keep waiting for a wonderful moment. I’m stunned with a shot,,, first light with a sea of mist and sun rises… Soooo beautiful. Asked your hotel or guest house for booking Skylab -about 100bht each and 25-30bht for pick-up (round trip).

  5. To go up to the top you have to take a ride for 20baht/person as they don’t allow you to drive up there. From the top the view of Chieng Khan, Khong River and Laos are fantastic. But to see the fog-covered valley you have to go very early and at the right time of the year. One can also pay homage to the very sacred Bhudda image.

  6. We depart at 5.45am, reached the carpark and take the authorised pickup truck up the peak. There is a buddha at the peak (which common in Thai). We waited patiently and slowly the crowd are building up. About 6.15am can see some red light from behind the apposite mountains. The mist is below us and form a nice cloud of sea. By 6.30+, the round red dot start rising and the view is amazing. You have 360 deg view from the peak. One side facing Mekong River and Chang Khan town.

  7. Plan to reach the summit by 5.45am in the winter months. Good views but tends to be crowded. Must visit when in Chiang Khan.

  8. The attraction of Phu Thog is the prospect of seeing the sunrise over the mountains and fog in the valleys. Unfortunately, during our rainy season visit, we saw little of either. Still, the early morning trip up the small mountain was invigorating and pleasant. During mid-year, the sun rises by 5:30 a.m., so we left our hotel at 5:00. The mountain is very close to Chiang Khan city. The local community has the site well orgainized and charges 20 baht for parking and 25 baht per person to haul people up the mountain. Due to limited parking at the summit and the challenge of the narrow, curvy access road, it makes good safety sense that this transport service is systematized by the community. Also good that they are able to earn some financial benefits from the visiting tourists. The view from the top (even without perfectly clear weather) was very enjoyable. There are several stalls selling locally made clothes and snacks at the bottom of the mountain.

  9. Beautiful view of the mountains and the Mekong river! Go early in the morning to see the fog over the mountains. You cannot go all the way to the mountains with your own car. You can buy tickets for transport which will bring you to the top of the mountain.

  10. View is amazing no doubt about that.Just felt little empty after visiting phu po pa mountain. Ride up there was short and when got there just a quick photo sessions and ride back down.Maybe better on cloudy day or at sunrise.
