  1. haad thongtakian…second name crystal bay…is a well visited small bay on the way to chaweng shortly before the mainroad move up to the hills. we entered thru a resortrestaurant to that beautiful small beach. we had perfect weather…no clouds and pure sunshine and as we arrived…it was the later morningtime…a lot of people were already there. and thats no wonder! the crystal bay is realy one of the nicest beaches in koh samui. the beach itself is not so big…maybe 200 meters…but the sand is interupt from beautiful rockformations and during hightide it is possible to snorkel there. the water was tupwarm and crystalclear with a perfect visibility. the beach slopes gentle to the sea and a lot of families with children were around, but it was not noisy or crowded the whole time. on both sides of the beach beautiful cliffs are located, which make the surrounding one more time nicer.the djungle vegetation in the back and on the hill is lush and two or three resorts are located dirctly on the beach. it is possible to use the toilet and the beachbar offers drinks for the beacharea also in the morning and around noon shadowzones are rare on the beach. just one…realy big…tree grows there and this giant spends shadow for a lot of people but not for all…that means…who arrives late should have a excellent sun protection inside of the beach belongings. in the later afternoon shodow is no problem, because the sun shines thru the vegetation in the back.we can recomment haad thongtakian…alias crystal bay…very much…a beautiful place on the eastcoast of koh samui…lively but not crowded. when we are in koh samui next time we will go there again for a day in the sunshine..

  2. Thong Takian Beach (also known as Crystal Bay Beach) is a small beach with a nice landscape but very bad for swimming. There are two resorts right by the beach so you can get something to drink or have an ice cream after your bath (but they do not serve on the beach) but it can get quite crowded considering how small the beach is. The sand is nice but dirty. The water however was terrible: it is shallow until very very far away from the shore, there are lots of rocks everywhere so you can’t swim or walk. If you are really willing to you can snorkel but it’s really not worth it at all; all I could see was 3 fish and one coral. Would only recommend if you are staying very close to it and just go once so you can see the landscape.

  3. Visited here a couple of times while staying on the island. Also known as crystal beach it sits between chaweng and lamai. There is a signpost in red to the beach and there is a lady who lets you park for 50baht if you dont want to park on main road. Follow path for about 5 mins and you will arrive at a really pretty, relaxing beach. You can eat at one of a few beach clubs or get a massage, or simply soak up the sun sitting in its calm clear waters. Did a bit of snorkelling and saw several varieties of fish in chest deep water over to the left of the beach by the rocks. It felt very safe. Huge granite rocks add to the scenery
