  1. Felt like i was in a dream for the whole time there. Dee and other mates really take care of the elephants well. 4 elephants all look happy and peaceful. If you’re an animal lover, and want to help the elephants have better lives, you should visit here

  2. We had a great time at Elephant dream project! It is really clear that the wellbeing of the elephants are their top priority. The elephants are very happy and relaxed and are never forced to do anything. It was such an intimate and informative experience. I would certainly recommend to anyone in the Chiang Mai area!

  3. The experience with the elephants was amazing. So many other tours says that are ethical, but then you realize that they are not. In Elephant Dream Project they really take care of the elephants, and they do not force to take a shower with the people, but you can do if the animals wants to. We learned about the elephants, feed them, we accompanied them on a walk through the jungle and went to the river where they take a bath. Finally we had lunch and said goodbye to the elephants before returning to chiang mai. Fully recommendable.

  4. Very nice place to know more about elephants and their habitat. They absolutely care about elephants and it’s a beautiful moment time share with them, respectfully

  5. After searching for ages for an ethical elephant sanctuary we are so happy this is the one we picked!! The workers are very passionate and clearly view the elephants as family. Nothing specific was guaranteed like being able to bathe them as everything is based on what the animals are feeling that day / if they want to approach you. I loved this as I felt comfortable they were happy and not being forced to do anything for tourists. We were lucky enough to walk with these beautiful animals, and swim with them before our lovely lunch. The guide described their different personalities so you felt like you got to know them better, and again showed how closely they worked with the animals. Would 100% recommend if you’re in chiang mai and want to see some elephants.

  6. Amazing experience. A must when visiting Chiang Mai! We all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The owner was welcoming and took really good care of us

  7. Incredible experience! We did the full-day experience and saw and interacted with the elephants in their ‘natural’ habitat – on the hillside and then, down in the river – eating and bathing. Afterward, we were treated to a fantastic lunch and then we made medicinal “vitamin” balls to feed the elephants. We spent the next bit of time hand-feeding the elephants, and closely interacting with them.We were concerned about the legitimacy and ethics of the various “elephant sanctuaries” in the area – but felt we felt like the staff was honest about how they care for their group of elephants (stating they don’t have them “perform” and if they didn’t want to get immersed in the river – they wouldn’t) – all of which was true. The staff was polite and informative – giving us a great lesson on the “history” of the elephant in Thailand and basic info on the animals themselves (they eat all day and only sleep 4 x hours a day 🙂 ). Lunch was, again, fantastic. The only thing to be aware of is a 2 x hour trip from Chiang Mai, but it was well worth getting out to a natural (and ethical) setting. Overall, it was a very positive experience and we’re glad we chose the Elephant Dream Project for this part of our trip in Chiang Mai

  8. Spent a long time researching to find the right place to see elephants near Chiang Mai in an ethical way, and I’m so glad we found the Dream Project. The elephants seem to be treated very well by their local caretakers and be happy and healthy. There were no tacky souvenirs and no bells and whistles – it’s clear that the main focus is the animals.

  9. If you are going to visit elephants, this is the place to go. The elephants are not chained up and seem genuinely happy. You help to cut some food for them and then feed them. The elephants are allowed to go and bathe in the river, and visitors sit on the side to watch them. If the elephants do not want to bathe, they are not forced to. The owner Mr Dee seems a caring person, as do the staff. In conclusion, if I were an Asian elephant, I would be happy living here as it is probably the closest to freedom they will ever get.

  10. Unbelievable experience. The staff are so kind, the elephants are looked after really well and it’s completely run by locals who care about the elephant welfare so they aren’t forced to do anything and get lots of space to roam. The food is also delicious.Choose this over any big company elephant sanctuary.

  11. My husband and I came here on our honeymoon and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was the most ethical sanctuary we could find as they do not force the elephants to do “bathing time” or have anything to poke or pull the elephants. They were able to roam where they wanted and we were able to feed them and walk with them through the forest, as well as watch them play in the river. We were able to join them if we wanted but we didn’t because the water was too cold for us. Mr. D who is the owner was very kind and you can tell he is very passionate about caring for the elephants. The lunch that was provided was also so delicious and home made. The sanctuary is about 1hr and 45min from town which was the only downside, but goes to show that the elephants are in an area where they have room to roam. The whole experience was amazing and we highly recommend!

  12. If I could give 6 out of 5, I would. Excellent day out with Dee, an excellent host for the day. A very worthy project involving Dee’s family, village and his connection to 30 elephants.

  13. We had a wonerful time. We enjoyed feeding and walking with the Elephants. This is a very ethical low key sanctuary. It is not a big Commercial sanctuary with rented elephants. The lunch they provided was also very good and beer is available for purchase.

  14. What a day ! Thanks to Mr Dee who runs this sanctuary ethically , it was a privilege to come face to face with such epic and charismatic animals , and all I had to do was phone direct the day before , left it late I know , no problems Though , and pick up time confirmed that day, even phoned me when running a little bit late on the pick up Nothing was too much trouble to answer any of my questions . The day went so quick as did the elephant food and our lunch , which was excellent . Journey there and back breezed by in no time . I don’t normally do reviews but in this case it’s my pleasure to recommend going to any one , of any age , and I would go again and again, but have to leave Thailand to go home . To those who need to choose a sanctuary that is true to its word online this is it ! .

  15. I was very skeptical about any kind of elephant seeing trip, but the guys who run this place really do love the elephants- they all grew up with them in their village and they are working to get more people to visit the dream elephant project so they can buy land and bring back the 26 other elephants their villagers own which are currently on ‘lease’ to big companies with poor ethical records for the treatment of the elephants. They currently have 4 elephants at the project and their dream is to bring back the remaining 26. I think if i was an elephant who had been mistreated for years i would be happy to end up at this project. You get to see the elephants in their natural interactions without all the gimmicky horribleness of ‘bathing with them’ or any of that stuff. Seems like a genuinely worthy cause- would recommend.

  16. we were picked up and dropped off outside out hotel. on the way there we stopped for toilets, food and water.when we got there we were given a quick briefing before recieving a tunic and a bucket of food for the elephants. we were told their names, ages and family relations to each other. we fed them a few different things and then went down to the river to get them out of the sun. all the while, the animals are unchained, no one is able to ride them, bathe them or have too much physical contact with them. photo opportunities are easily available still, but this whole experience is ethical and purely about providing the animals with the best treatment whilst still being and amazing experience for us.lunch was amazing and plentiful and we had a safe space to store belongings etc.i highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a more ethical approach to elephant experiences, which after all, is what animal sanctuaries are supposed to be about.
