The Opium Spa by The Siam Hotel is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking The Siam Hotel, 3/2 Khao Rd. Wachira Phayaban, Dusit, 10300, Thailand
The Opium Spa is nestled within the beautiful surroundings of the Siam luxury hotel labelled as an Urban Resort. It’s not hard to see why after arriving from a busy day exploring the beautiful chaos of Bangkok city by the Siam’s luxury speedboat that docks on their private pier a few steps from the hotel’s tropically manicured landscape. There is something infinitely soothing about relaxing into leather seats and being lulled down the river watching the world go by for the 25min journey from city to hideaway. The Opium Spa has won a few awards most notably in the World Luxury category so I arrived with high expectations, especially as the Siam is decked out with the full range of products from the Sodashi product house – one of my favourites!I was led from the pier into the main building and greeted by impeccably dressed and friendly staff. We descended down into the lower level which is fully dedicated to the Opium Spa and was seated in a very large open waiting area which could easily hold a cocktail party in numbers, but again designed in a way that offered space where couples could talk without the feeling of intrusion or conversations being overheard. There was a mix of singles and couples around me, mostly basking in the afterglow of their treatments.I had booked two back to back treatments, the first being a 90min Muay Thai Massage, followed by a 90min Thermal Infusing Facial. Why not right? When in Thailand! I chose the Muay Thai massage as it’s a stronger massage technique that uses firm pressure with hands, elbows and in this case knees to try and release pressure and tension from those long hours at the laptop and hunched over my phone. My therapist arrived and took me into the inner sanctum of the treatment room and gave me the rundown of the process. I promptly changed and headed straight into the steam room, sorry private steam room, where I had 20min of pre-treatment steaming. One of the first things that was immediately different is the therapists starting foot technique. The washing of the feet style ceremony is quite normal, but this was done with hot small towels and my feet felt like they were encased in this beautifully warm cocoon whilst she began to un-knot me from feet up. I could literally feel the tension oozing out my body and knew this was going to be an amazing experience. The Muay Thai massage may not be for everyone, it’s not relaxing in the traditional sense with flowery strokes and gentle manipulation, it simply isn’t designed for that. For me, it fitted the bill perfectly. I felt straighter, longer and more centered than I’d been for the whole last year after the 90min. I also knew I’d be a little sore the next day given the hard pressure I had asked for but it was worth it. My body moved in the way it should with all parts in co-ordination with the other. I would rate this one of the best massages I’ve had and I’ve had a lot by anyone’s standard. Then came the Thermal Infusing facial which was explained to me in some detail as the highlight of the treatment is a warm mask that is built up over the whole face kind of like a wrapped mummy style. The facial is indulgent. It felt like it was never ending and treatment after treatment was plied to my face in an effort to cleanse and purify and restore some elasticity to my face. It worked. The mask was phenomenal and a hard experience to describe. If you’re claustrophobic, stay away from this treatment. You are encased in a warming mask that hardens and literally is cracked and peeled off to reveal the new you. I half expected to wake up and not recognize myself in the mirror! It was totally relaxing and I’m sure I snored my way through a fair chunk of it with a few grunts thrown in for good measure. When I did eventually manage to scrape my new self off the treatment table and peer into the mirror, my skin looked amazing. I kid you not, maybe 1-2 years had melted off my face. Bliss A true Urban Resort experience indeed. A must try!
I regret that I did not book rooms at the Siam on my recent trip to Bangkok. My wife and I decided to brave the cross town ride to see what the property had to offer. After the usual traffic jam , we arrived at a little lobby that is visually stunning. More of a courtyard than anything else it was very comforting to finally have arrived and found such a gem. We decided to eat at the riverside restaurant and made our way there. Our path led us past a sunken sitting court set one level below. Dark and full of architectural detail we decided to go back and explore after our meal. Having made our way back we found ourselves in the Opium Spa lobby. We immediately agreed to indulge and took the 2 hour couples treatment. The rooms are well organized and complete with shower/ steam , grooming area for him and her. Twin beds and a sleeping terrace of sorts was beyond. The therapists were well trained and professional. We enjoyed every minute of the treatment. Any traveller looking for something to always remember will have found the right place. Visually dramatic and wonderful service. A must in Bangkok!
We are guests at the hotel and we booked a husband-and-wife simultaneous massage in the same room. Both of us thought this was the best Thai massage we ever had. The staff spent a lot of time inquiring about our health and our needs before our massage. Expensive but worth it.
We had checked out of our room at noon and spent the afternoon at the spa before our pick up to the airport. Had a 60 minutes Swedish massage. Masseuse was excellent. Used the steam room prior to the massage and we were allowed to shower and dress. Very accommodating. Great service and amenities. It is a bit pricier than comparable spas but on par with any of the large hotels and worth it in my opinion.
We stayed recently at The Siam hotel in Bangkok. Loved the hotel and loved the Opium spa. My husband and I both had massages and also facials- a first for him! The spa Is in a beautiful setting and the staff are lovely, providing an excellent massage.
It has been my psychological resistant to male massage therapist “Sze Fu” since I am indulge to massage therapy ages ago. This concept had been fully overturned since I was experienced by this “Magic Hands” offered by Eric from the Opium Spa which I would say is the best therapy I have ever had so far in my therapy history. I was puzzled whether the treatment was made from the hands of a female therapist as the motion and pressure was extraordinary soft but reaching deeply to the sore muscles that exactly require such relaxation. Every treatment procedure was so detailed and satisfying which makes me recall why the name “Opium Spa” comes from as I could not resist myself to go back repeatedly to this place.
Wonderful Spa sessions at the Opium Spa. Incredible decor and ambience with top qualified therapists. My massage therapist was Ying, she was excellent.
