We got in contact with Non trough the company roots of asia. We booked a day with the elephants and a day in the jungle with an overnight stay. They picked us up in chiang mai to drive us to our destination. Once we arrived we went to the elephants to give them food and take pictures. Afterwards we ate and went in the river with the elephants. This was one of the most amazing days of my life! Non (and his brother) is a very friendly and funny guy with a heart of gold. He really loves his animals and takes good care of them. For me it was very important to do the activity with the elephants in a small group of people and with respect for the animals. Our trip in the jungle got canceled because of the rain (August) but Non and his brother gave us a great alternative. We went to a local village to drink coffee or tea, visited the white buddha and ate in a local restaurant. I would definitely recommend the day with the elephants en the food of Non! Thank you non for the expercience and I hope your dreams may come true!
The hosts are so welcoming and nice, definently recommend doing full day! Beautifull place with beautifull elephants.
thanks for this great day! non really loves his elephants. very recommendable. in this camp it’s about the well-being of elephants first and not about making as much money out of them as possible. very recommendable!
I’ve visited many other camps in the local area and this one is something special. The surreal experience here is only made possible because of the owner Non-Chai. Nons main objective here is all about allowing a real bond to take place between humans and elephants. He does this by providing a very private experience with minimal people and his beautiful elephants. You’ll learn about what the elephants wants and needs are and how they are met. The elephants are treated as family which has given them a gentle nature with great individual personalities. Non is just like a big kid so it’s no wonder why his elephants also love to play and be cheeky, especially Valentine the big baby boy. Do yourself a favour and go see Non, you get so much more than can be bought with money, you’ll not only enjoy time with the elephants but you’ll get to experience how people live in a Karen Tribe Village on a daily basis. Cheers for sharing your views, thoughts, dreams and everything else your little paradise has to offer with me Non ?
This place is amazing! There are so many Elephant sanctuarys to choose from in Chiang Mai. I feel that this camp is focused on the care for the elephants. This is a local business not a large company. They care for the local village of Nong Tao and everyone in it. They strive to be orginal and they strive to help and care for others, humans and animals rather than the money making. For me this makes my visit more special, I feel like I contributed to the community rather than someones pocket. They built this business to bring the elephants back to the village and give back to the village, like it was before. They want to return the elephants to the forest as much as possible. I was picked up outside my apartment right on time! I went alone so I was already a little nervous, but I was greeted by two lovely hosts. They made me feel Soo welcome. We started by making food for the elephants, then we went to meet the elephants, we spent so much time with them. We then went into the water with them and played and cleaned them. The whole experience was just wonderful, it was so relaxed and never felt rushed at any point. We were spoilt with such great lunch and dinner.
We visited Thailand from the US in the “Test & Go” program and visiting an elephant sanctuary was a must for us! I highly recommend Traditional Karen Elephant Village (TKEV). The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. We learned that TKEV was one of the few sanctuaries open during COVID as they are an independent sanctuary that owns the elephants on their land, and these elephants had been passed down through multiple generations. We also learned more about the history and culture of elephant tourism industry in Thailand and how TKEV cares for the elephants. We did the full-day experience from 8:30am-5:30pm and included pick-up, feeding, walking and bathing with the elephants, and drop-off back at our hotel. I can’t say enough nice things about our experience – see for yourself!
