Bueng Kan Tours is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 38000, Thailand
I was picked up at my hotel by Shane and he drove me around Bueng Kan for a day. First we visited a temple along the Maekong river with beautiful views and Laos on the other side. The temple is Wat Ahong Silawat. There are also some really interesting large boulders on the temple site with trees growing on them. Great short leisurely hike through the area. After the temple he took me to get some great local food for lunch and then after lunch, I was able to visit a farm producing rubber, pineapples, and palm oil. It was so interesting seeing how the rubber sap was collected from the trees and the first stage of the processing was done right there in a coconut shell mixing the sap with an acid. After the farm he took me to Wat Phu Thok which is an amazing temple complex built on and around a giant 1000 foot tall rock. The paths around the edge and up and down are hand made out of wood planks and its definitely exciting. As I walked around the temple, I could see long distances into the countryside and also loved seeing the random buildings and Buddha statues back in the crevices around every turn. After this, back to the hotel and the end of a great day.
Bueng Kan Tours is the only tour that I could find in Bueng Kan, and the best thing is free pick up and drop off at your hotel. As I wanted to see both Phu Tok and Phu Sing mountains, so I booked a day tour for this including Beung Khong Long Lake where we had our lunch there.It was not the best weather to travel last week due to the ‘uncommonly’ cold weather, but the best thing is you still gotta see the breathtaking view after sweat-free climbing especially way up to Phu Tok Mountain. On the other hand Shane is a great company and he knows all the hidden track/best view of the places we went. And he is a good photographer too, thanks to him I got a few cool shots!I’d book with Bueng Kan Tours if I visit to Issan region again, probably will arrange a personalised trip in other North East part in the future.Thanks to Bueng Kan Tours for the great memory!
I had to join Trip adviser just for this review, and shane’s tour definitely derserves 5 stars!I arrived in bueng kan to visit Phu Thok and Phu sing (3 whales), but in such a small suburb it was not easy to arrange things for someone who does not speak Thai at all.While i was struggling to arrange a private transportation (TukTuk), i came across Bueng Kan tours, and it was the luckiest thing during my trip!Shane came to my hotel for a chat right after i gave him a call, and for the next 2 days, he took me to Phu Thok and Phu Sing. And believe me, the tour with shane is just amazing.1. He offers free pick up/drop off at any point you desire (within the town, ofc lol)2. Shane is such a humourous guy, so you will never get bored!3. He takes you to those ‘hidden’ spots with great views, where you would definitely miss on your own.4. Super reasonable priceStill Cant believe i couls enjoy this quality of tour in this small town, hours and hours away from bangkok.Thanks for the great memory shane! There’s some stunning scenery in the area but it’s very spread out. Difficult to access without a 4WD and without a knowledge of the area. Bueng Kan Tours offers guided and, if required, personaliised tours including pick up and drop off at your hotel in Bueng Kan. Shane and his wife are very friendly and accommodating. I can certainly recommend using their services to explore the region. The only slight drawback is that there are lots of miles in between the interesting spots, meaning long car journeys through sometimes not such inspiring scenery. But that’s nothing to do with Bueng Kan Tours of course!
Probably the only agency i could find there at the time – and I’m glad i did because they are AMAZING! My guide (i forgot his name- bad memory) was really nice. Picked me up from my hotel in a nice big clean and proper car. I felt safe wherever he drove- even way up in the mountains. He was the kinda guide i wanted, the one who gave my inner Earth child the space to connect with the natural beauties of the environment we explored (he took me through hidden – probably also forgotten paths, to places with spectacular views, places where most tourists wouldn’t dare to go…we had to climb through some bushes though, but it was all worth it!)He was willing to take photos whenever i requested and was even a good ear for me to tell my life story! Pricing also not bad at all, when taking into account all the sites i saw! My highest recommendation would be the “Three whales” and “Wat Phu Tok”.Thanks guy for making that trip so memorable!!
Today Shane picked us up from our hotel in Bueng kan. He took us to some beautiful places.Although it was busy because of the holidays we took some amazing pictures and Shane gave all the time needed to see the sights. Thanks for a great tour!
