Very nice place with great views. You can relax on a floating private area and order a meal, drink a beer and relax. Swimming areas for all ages plus you can catch a ride on floating devices pulled behind wave runners.
We spotted Pattaya Noi (on the right) as we drove along Highway 217 towards Kaeng Tana National Park from Ubon Ratchathani city. All the signs were in Thai but I was told we were at Pattaya Noi (Little Pattaya) – as it was close to lunchtime we decided to stop and eat. We parked the car in a thoughtfully provided shaded area and were led to a floating platform at the edge of the lake. We ordered lunch from a menu (all in Thai but with some photo’s) and dipped our feet over the edge in to the cooling waters. There were water-sports available’ rubber rings, bananas, and jet-skis all of which seemed very popular amongst the kids but we didn’t partake. We stayed about 90 minutes, enjoying a large meal and soft-drinks coming to just under 500 baht for 2 – you pay a premium for the location but by western standards it was inexpensive. It was all very pleasant; I’m not sure I’d drive 1 hour out of town just to visit but as we were passing it was definitely worth the stop.
We decided to drive out the + 1hr to Sirindhorn Dam/Reservoir close to the Laos border. The Dam, which you can drive in to EGAT’s plant isn’t much to see, but the reservoir is impressive. We then went to ‘Little Pattaya’ on the reservoir for the kids to swim, the wife to eat and me to relax. When arriving at ‘Little Pattaya’ all the staff from the various rafts try to tempt you in, we found it best to drive straight right to the end where it is quieter. Walk on to a raft, buy some food n drink, go swimming. Food wasn’t so great, but lovely place to sit with a nice cool breeze…I could have sat there for hours, it was lovely and relaxing. Kids went on a banana boat ride twice which they loved – man on the waterski was very nice. They then went on a Sofa ride…inflatable sofa which the man on the towing Jet Ski can slingshot sideways at high speed (the sofa goes sideways in an arc). Youngest son came back crying and traumatized as the man wouldn’t slow down when my son shouted in THAI to him and he wouldn’t bring them back to us when my son shouted in THAI that he had had enough. We could hear my son shouting as they past the raft so the man could also…not sure what his problem was! Spoilt a lovely trip there as my son was well shocked and distressed.Enjoyed our time there.
This is a good place to order some local food and sit on mats on wooden floats over the water. We have been there around 3 times already and have enjoyed every time as worthwhile, although the food is a little overpriced – but you must expect that in an isolated place like this.I found it amusing to see the ice cream seller float his “cooler” around on the water to us. Since we were the only ones there, I felt sorry for him and bought an ice cream despite not feeling like one. The weekends do get a little crowded but during the week it is very quiet there. Be prepared for dirty and stinking toilets as the facilities are not well looked after.
Set on the side of a man made dam, this is a great beach spot, lots of floating restaurants, jet ski rides, or just for a swim to cool off, if youre around Ubon area this is a wonderful place to visit for the day
Right by the province Thai Immigration office so go here for lunch to make the trip worthwhile.Park up after driving past the first 10 or so waving-you-in people to make sure you’re further along with good views.Walk aboard the nearest gangway and wobble your way out to a hut where they will lay you down a mat and take your order.Menus in English with pictures. Not expensive and food is typical thai fare. You come here for the feel of being on water and the lake view. Very popular with youngster and teens who swim/jump off the decks and avail themselves of jetski banana boat rides.Alcohol here and renting black rings to water frolic. Water looks clear enough and small fish investigate your toes if you take a refreshing foot dip.Inflatables tethered to some pontoons also for those wishing to slide. All in all a very populist place for the masses and a very enjoyably maritime experience for such a landlocked region.Busier but still pleasant at weekends.
I thought it’s smaller as Noi meant small but it’s a huge area for food and seem like a local amusement park for everyone. Better to stop by in the evening to enjoy the atmosphere and the clear water.
Sirindhorn Lake is between Ubon Ratchathani and Lao border on the way to Pakse in NE Thailand. This place is nicknamed (Hat) Pattaya Noi (Little Pattaya). Thank Buddha that it’s nothing like Pattaya. This is how Thais do a one day holiday. Arrive in a pickup with 10 people in the back, choose which raft restaurant to go to and select a suitable eating bay (sala) that sits on a floating pontoon base. You spread out a Thai style sitting mat Then lashings of reasonably priced Thai dishes are ordered which I never saw finished by any group. So then, eating, drinking swimming, jet skis pulling floats, and water playgrounds. I saw one group fishing but without success. There was even a mobile ice cream vendor with music and a perpetual smile, maybe because it was a hot day. Like a river cruise restaurant but staying in one spot. It’s all a hoot. The idea of a (stationary) floating restaurant is very pleasant.
