  1. My family of four visit Koh Taen and Ko Mudtsum and hade great 1/2 day out. Snorkeling on great coral reef and great time on the beach. Also enjoy mountain and great resturant ion the main island. We used tourkohtean company that I would highly recommend.OPther oporator use long tail boat with too many opeople (we where only 4 guest on a nice speed boat) maybe 30 or more and they walk on coral distroying it for all.Defently be back

  2. I wanted a nice snorkeling but did not want my time spent too much on a long boat ride to the popular Koh Tao or An Thong national park so I did some home work and chose to go to the near islands Koh Taen and Koh Mudsum. Both my husband and I enjoyed watching the colorful fishes swimming by during the snorkeling. The sunlight may not be the best in the year but enough to clearly see the coral life. we had a water proof camera and captured those beautiful scene in our memory. We also took a break at Mudsum and just relaxed at the beach, the water is shallow good for a long walk in the sea, quite interesting. Since Koh Taen (or Koh Tan) is relatively close to Koh Samui that other islands, we saved much travel time and could enjoy some afternoon after the trip. I guess Koh Taen is not that well known among tourists, the long tail boat only collected 9 adults & 2 kids in our trip, it’s small group and almost feel it’s a semi-private tour.(stayed in koh samui for only a few days in late Sep, 2013 as a couple)

  3. Exploring the neighboring islands of Koh Samui is a must. Not populated and great snorkeling sites. But our visit was made special by a company called Island Gem Picnic who provided a wonderful and impressive beach picnic. Excellent food and the availability of drinks is unbelievable. Wines, beers, softdrinks and many more! Highly recommended. Very friendly owner, Gavin.

  4. This is a conserved island where there isn’t more than a little restauran, 6 bungalows and a little temple with a whaleshark skeleton… Island has nice stories and dogs can’t come on the island because they’ll turn mad and die for a very special reason. Definitely worth going! Trip is usually not more than 1500 THB

  5. Thanks to the other Trip advisor reviewers, we read about this a gave it a go and were not disappointed with the decision. We drove around to Thong Tanote Beach at the bottom of the island. It is a small fishing village. Without any bookings, we found a boat that would take us over the Koh Taen snorkelling and then over to Koh Mat Sum. In all, the family of 4 of us had the boat with captain to ourselves for 5 hours, at only 1300 THB (about $40 USD).The boat was a long tail boat and came with life jackets, bread to feed the fish and drinking water. It also had masks and snorkels, but we brought our own to use anyway. In addition, we had our own flippers. As per another review, the boats don’t provide fins, so I would recommend taking some yourself. The fish life was good on Koh Taen, but the water visibility was only about 10 feet as there was a little bit of a current. Possibly in a different phase of the tide it would be better? The highlight of the day though Koh Mat Sum. We pulled up to a little private sandy bay and the whole place to ourselves. We had some food, chilled out, swam, snorkelled, etc… the water visibility there was exceptional!!!TIP – Take some sun screen. We spent so much time in the warm water, we forgot how strong the sun can be and we all got a little bit sun burnt.

  6. it was like snorkeling in a aquarium, we saw many different fish from nemo to stringrays and dory everyone was there ! it was really cheap compared to koh toa trips or the national angtong park

  7. We took a tour to Koh Tan to do some snorkelling and to avoid going all the way to Koh Tao from Koh Samui and to avoid the crowds. However, aside from the few fishes we saw near the boat when the tour guide threw some bread in the water, we did not see anything at all! Just brown plants, no colourful coral nor fishes. We ended up going to Koh Tao on the next day and it was absolutely great. It is really easy to go away from the crowds as people all stay in the same spot near the beach and you justw have to go a bit further to see so much more with no one around. We were with our kids (8 and 11 years old) and they easily followed us.

  8. We visited this island to have a look around, and it was very quiet and peaceful. Not too much on the actual island, and you need to be reasonably fit as the inclines are very steep in places. We found the signs to different locations a little misleading, as the sign for the ‘bat cave’ sent us down the track but could not find it.The buddha on the west side was good to see, but did not too much time to see much else.Glad we went to Koh Taen, but next time will go some other island

  9. Stayed at Koh Tan Village Bungalows. Lovely owner and his family. Good food. Wonderfully peaceful and relaxing. Fabulous view of bats streaming across the sky at dusk. A natural phenomenon and worth the trip alone. Ignore the awful plastic and rubbish washed up on their shores everyday. The island is lush and lovely sandy beaches on other side of island. Will definitely return sometime.
