Expensive bar in Phuket but every day different show , you will be not bored there , you have to visit this place
I’ve visited Zag four days in a row when I was in Patong. The shows are nice. Staff were friendly. I would definitely come here again. I enjoyed my time thoroughly. Always packed. Shows from 8:45 till 11 ( COVID ) but then DJ musics till late. Friendly ish crowd but would have loved to see more engagement from the crowd as we are one community instead of constantly on the “ apps”. Thanks Zag and its staff for putting huge smile on my face n making me happy.
It’s a gay bar. Music is good. Shows are on the road. Alcohol is good. It’s little over the top. It’s a different world altogether.
It hurts to write this as the time I visited this place back in 2013ish I had a brilliant time and there was a special buzz around the place.I’m worried I’ll sound patronising because Thailand is still behind the curve from other holiday destinations around the world but I left last night and went to the bar next door. The reason for this was due to one of the queens during the cabaret came on stage to lip sync to Gloria Gaynor, I will survive. The Queen had a black morph suit on for her body, an affro wig and blacked up make up on her face and a random big black mole. In 2022 or in other time this is wrong. In a world where LGBTQ+ people are still discriminated against, threatened and marginalised we need to hold ourselves to a high standard and show solidarity with other folk who face the same or similar inequality and injustice. Generally the staff were friend and the shows are fine (until the issue above) but they do hark back a couple of decades. The male dancers don’t look like they want to be there and I’ve seen more rhythm and life in a dead fish. Tbh I wasn’t there for the male dancers it’s not my thing but there obviously is a clientele that is looking for it. It does all look messy, no matching outfits or shoes. It’s all just unpolished.Hopefully the owners will read this and take action on the blacking up issue, the rest can be forgiven as it’s the only 1 of 3 LGBTQ spots in town. I did go next door and 2 performances in I saw something similar. I think the pandemic recovery is taking its toll a bit as every one looked fed up.Come one you’re better than this.
My partner and I had first visited the bar on Friday 20th Jan 2023, first night was okay, drag queens were working hard to give a good performance. We had roughly 5 drinks each, each time we tipped the waiter around 50 baht per order so roughly 400 baht given as tips on top of the drinks on our first night. Second visit was next day, 21st Jan, we have had 2 drinks each, tipped 100 baht so far. Around midnight we got tired so called a taxi on Grab but waiting time was longer – 15 mins long. We finished our drinks 5 mins before the taxi driver arrived, and at this time a waiter who was skinny, tall and wearing a pair of glasses noticed our drinks glass were empty, so he asked us to order more drinks, when we told him that we are just waiting for taxi so we do not need to order another drink and we only have mere 5 minutes to go, politely and friendly. However as soon as this waiter realised that we were not ordering drinks, he became rude and aggressive, he literally pointed the outside of seating area demanding us to leave now, not a second longer. I confronted him by mentioning that we have been tipping them fairly generously while we were ordering drinks for 2 nights in a row now, this person continued to be rude and agressive and all he saying was: no and leave. No worries, we left immediately and luckily our taxi driver pulled over 1 minute later so no time wasted. It is a clear decision that we will never ever return to this bar again.
Cabaret show is good if rather formulaic. Professional dancers good. But the whole experience is let down by some of the waiters who expect tips (for serving you a drink???) and even to be bought drinks. They have no shame in asking you to be bought a drink! Some are pushy and won’t leave you alone. Happy prices are ok but full prices are expensive, my advice is watch the show from other bars where you are not hassled.
Zag offers a lot for very little money.The customer service staff looked after the guests courteously. Our well-being was important to them. If work allowed, they made time for a chat. Or they brought ice for the drink when it had melted without being asked. They always gave us good seats to see the amazing show in the best possible way. We will come back.
