  1. Six picturesque islets surrounding a nice lagoon. A lot of underwater life, too – and quite diverse (not like some places swarming with 3-4 fish species, here you can see various fish, snails etc.)

  2. Most of the resorts, hotels and things to do in Ko Lanta Yai are on or near Saladan, on the upper west side of the island, where you can enjoy the sunset. On the East coast of the island there is Old town which has its own charm. Then there are some caves and waterfalls as well in addition to the diving and snorkeling. There is also some nightlife for those who are interested. It is nice for families and those seeking a slow-pace, relaxed vacation because you can check into a hotel by the beach, and do nothing but eat, swim, sleep, get a massage, and repeat without ever leaving the comfort of your resort.Pricing is rather inflated in the island. Everything from accommodations to meals is priced considerably higher than the rest of Thailand, even the local foods. For example, elsewhere in Thailand, you can fill up on some delicious krapao for THB60, while most places in Lanta might charge upwards of THB120. Even prawns were obscenely expensive in Lanta: most restaurants asked for around THB400 for 2 jumbo prawns while in Krabi, we got our hands on 8 prawns only slightly smaller for THB180 at the beach walk.Getting to and around Lanta is easy. If you land in Krabi, there are boats and buses going into Lanta, or you can grab a taxi or even rent a car at the airport. Te road is kept up and scenic and there is a ferry that takes you -without having to get off from your car- across to Lanta Noi which is connected to Lanta Yai by a bridge. The ferry has one charge for the vehicle and driver plus an additional charge per passenger and is payable by cash in local currency. When in Lanta Yai, you can use a taxi to get around. Most are a motorbike with a side car that can fit about 3-4 adults, or in our case 2 adults and 3 small children with only one backpack. If you have more people in your group or need luggage space, you can either hire two of the taxis I just described, or find a songtaeo type of taxi which is a pick up truck with a covered back and two benches. These can fit up to about 8-10 people with limited luggage.Tips for families on a budget:Decide what your priority is. In our case, we chose accommodation and booked a nice, family-friendly resort right by the beach, which had a children’s pool, and a nice grassy area and we made sure we would have a fridge in our room, which allowed us to stock up to save money. To stretch our budget, we decided to eat only one meal out each day (usually lunch) and the other two plus snacks on our own. We purchased milk, yoghurt, sandwich bread, Nutella, tuna, and fruit and some cup of noodles. This worked out really well for us and we enjoyed our picnic meals by the pool. It was great. When eating out, don’t feel like your only options are the inflated-price restaurants. Look around and see if you can spot where the locals eat, if you’re comfortable with it, which we are and we had some very filling Thai meals for less than THB600 including drinks. Outside of Tesco in Saladan, they also set up a 5 Star Chicken stand which sells an entire tasty chicken for about THB300.There are plenty of tours from Lanta. You can go to Phuket, PhiPhi, Krabi, among others from Lanta by boat. We did two tours and enjoyed everything a lot. Recomendable.

  3. Best trip on Lanta you can do. Amazing corals and not so crowded like 4 islands or ko rok. Try to get a trip arriving in afternoon, then there are less other people. Also you will have sunset when going back.

  4. We have been in this amazing marine park from 5 rock s last year for diving:) you can’t believe, but we saw Whale Shark:)Unfortunately Marine park is closed from May 15 to October 15 every year:(So we can’t visit it this time:(Is very nice place for snorkeling and diving! If you have chance definitely visit it!

  5. Koh Ha is about 45 minutes by speed boat from Koh Lanta. The variety of corals and fish are much better than Koh Phi Phi. Visibility is also very good even on a cloudy day. Go there while it still last before mass tourism descends on it just like Phi Phi. Best time to go is the dry season between December to March.

  6. Came here not as many boats as Koh ROK as most just go to Koh ROK and do not include this and they missing it, awesome snorkelling here, great corals and interesting fish and starfish which is better than Koh rok.I did tour with opal

  7. Very nice place for snorkeling, no deep and clear sea, surrounding with 5 mountains.Around 40 minutes from Ko Rok by speed boat.Around 40 minutes from Long beach (Ko Lunta) by speed boat.

  8. A group of small rocky islands 1 hour on speed boat SE from Koh Lanta. It’s a part of natural marine park and as such protected from human interference. Seeing the rocky popups and the surrounding sea is wonderful, add diving or snorkelling and the experience is unforgettable.

  9. Snorkelling trip. Speedboat picked us up at the beach at our hotel Long Beach Chalet. First stop Koh Rok and second stop here at Koh Ha. Amazing place. Not blown away by the snorkelling experience, but the whole experience of paradise islands is worth it.

  10. Although usually part of a snorkelling package that includes Ko Rok, Ko Ha does not offer either the coral or fish life of other islands. The towering cliffs overlooking the snorkelling site is majestic and interesting. North worth visiting for snorkelling, Ko Rok is much better, and, I have been told, the 4 islands are also good.
