  1. This place was cool, my fiancée and I wanted to experience some authentic Muay Thai boxing classes and this was a good place to do it. Seemed a bit daunting at first with all the pro fighters but they definitely accommodate for beginners. We had one on ones with the teachers there – sweated it out and had a good kick. Be ready for a workout.

  2. I trained here for two months and the feeling i got was that this was one big family. The coaches are always joking, friendly and reasonable. Unless it’s during the more intense parts of the training session, where they instead might scream at you plenty (depending on who’s your coach). I thought this screaming was because they were unpleased, but then one of the long-timer local falangs told me it was beacuse they liked me enough to put in the effort to whip me into shape. Aparently i was more popular than i realized. The general rule is: If you put in the effort, they put in the effort. There are usually at least 4-5 coaches on-site working full-time, one of which is a woman, working with the girls. If you avoid going here during the most busy months the trainer to student ratio is amazing, often as low as 1:2, almost like having private sessions but without having to pay for it. Also, if you are new to muay thay, or new to their brand of it (they can be stylistic at times), they take you to the side for some 1-on-1 and finer points. For that same reason this is one of the few gyms i’ve seen that actually takes good care of beginners. That being said it’s not as good as doing a dedicated beginners course, but it’s as good as it’s gonna get in Thailand. Morning training sessions are about 1.5 hour, with a bit less “mpf”, the evening training sessions are 2 – 2.5 hours with considerable intensity for those who crave it. Personally i could never finish those. The quality of the pad work is very varied, sometimes mindblowing, other times less spectacular (especially after the new years party), but i never felt undertrained. As a heavyweight i maybe felt they treated me a bit too much like a middleweight, expecting me to kick, kick, kick, like there was no tomorrow. But it wasn’t a big issue, as they were adaptable and could be reasoned with. I had chronic tendinitis in my feet at that time, but they didn’t try too hard to get me to do things that would aggrevate it, and as a result i steadily recovered. I’d say this gym works best for mid-level to semi-professional fighters. Some people only stay for a couple of days before switching gyms, while others extend their stay for 4 months. But the general opinion seemed to be that it was pretty damn great. Sparring was mostly very good when i was there, with a deacent level of experience in the mid-range and a couple of pros as well. The coaches also jump into the mix frequently to show you how it’s done, especially with new people to feel them out. However, a piece of critique that actually seemed to fit was: There was not much technical instruction above basic level. They might show you how to catch a kick, block a teep, or check a roundhouse kick with you shin and elbow. Nothing extraordinary. So if you are looking for something more advanced this might not be the place for you, at least not long-term. This being said, unless you are a career martial artist with fights coming up, i’d be shocked if this gym doesn’t do it for you. To sum it all up: This a gym that caters mostly to tourists, but still has that thai-gym feel to it. I’d also like to point out that Lamai, although a bit dull at times, is the most comfortable and cheap place i ever stayed. Renting an apartment for 2000 baht a week, a good motorbike for 900 a week, training 1x/day (2 hours) for 1300 per week, getting deep tissue massages for 300 per hour at Reys, eating at Tesco food court for 60 baht per meal. In the end i had SAVED money relative to my budget and thereby had to start planning how i would spend it.

  3. Wech and his boys are authentic, funny and real pros! Bomb work out and amazing muay thai techniques. Will definitely come back once i’m on koh samui.

  4. Did Muay Thai here for 2 weeks originally 1 but we extended as we liked it so much. All the trainers are really good and all different in their own ways. We did 2 hours a day and the workout was always different. Everyone makes you feel welcome and I would highly recommend this place!

  5. I have trained at Wech Pinyo about 4-5 weeks total. In a couple of shorter periods. Wech is an excellent teacher and very friendly person and also the other trainers at the gym are good. Typical afternoon session started with very long 40 minute warm-up including running, lots of pushups, situps etc.. After warm-up we hit pads 3-4 rounds. Then there was usually a technical part where Wech showed us some new technique. After that we usually sparred and clinched. In the end we did some conditioning by kicking the bag. The session lasts typically about 2,5 hours, sometimes even close to 3 hours. It was pretty hard so couldn’t train twice a day like I have done in some other gyms. Wech Pinyoa is a great for both fighters and beginners but you want to be in good condition to get most out of the training.

  6. Dis one training here when I was staying on Samui. They are very professional and great teachers. I learned a lot. At the end of the session they even brought out some watermelon and grapes, which I found a really nice cherry on top of the cake.

  7. I was training with a very good and humble thaiboxing trainer Back Lekkom at Wech Pinyo gymStefan with son from Sweden

  8. I travelled from the UK to Koh Samui with my friend to learn Muay Thai. We tried other gyms on the island but none compared to Wech Pinyo so we decided to stay and train for a month! If you actually want to learn Muay Thai properly from experienced professionals who fight at the stadium every week and get the authentic Thai experience then there’s no better place on the island.

  9. Great place with Master Wech. I took private session once, it was amazing. Now this camp under construction and becoming bigger, investors making here new roof and building with hostel for living. Planning my next stay with accommodation.
