My family and myself visited this truly beautiful place in the jungle..Our guide was Lillie. She is a wonderful lady that aims to show you as much of Thailand as part of Tongs tours..Tong herself has given up the rat race life in Bangkok to dedicate her life to the elephants of the beautifully wild place in the jungle on the river bank of the river Kwai..For those of you in any part of the world, whatever creed or religion you are?, if you love animals and in particular, elephants, then please make a visit here part of your holiday in Thailand ..On your arrival, the elephants and their Mahoots, greet you, and STRAIGHT away, there is no worries of how the elephants react too humans. No fear in their eyes, no anger towards you, just calmness. Why put this particular point across on this travellers forum?Good question..Because these elephants were once badly treated by humans, used for financial gain, used and abused, then cast aside.Almost to the point of dying.Until this truly inspirational lady found them, and made it her mission in life, too try and save them, give them a life back again..They can never be allowed back into a wild scenario, they wouldn’t survive. So Tong set up this care & home for them to live out their lives in peace and safe from harm. You can sit on them with a major sat behind you..No basket as is used in theme based parks..Just walk, go too the river, bath with the elephants, play with them, wash and scrub them, and watch as they enjoy the time you share with them.Help prepare and cook their meals..This is truly a spiritual and humbling time..You can stay a night, maybe a few, in one of the riverside huts that have been built for guests..Not five star accommodation, but aircon, a fully functional toilet and shower, and even a fridge..A comfortable bed and even a hairdryer for the ladies..Every morning monks are given gifts too pray for the future and safe keeping of the now and past loved ones..If you are a person who just wants peace and tranquility or perhaps a novelist who doesnt want internet or being bothered as you write your next novel, this place will help you too..Me, my wife, daughter and 2yr old granddaughter only had a day and a bit here, but we had a truly wonderful family experience that is priceless.. Thank you Tong, Lillie and the Mahoots, but most of all, our love and sincere appreciation goes too these elephants for allowing us too be blessed in their company…
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time with Lily on our tour. Lily and our driver arrived at our hotel early and drove us to Kanchanaburi which was about 3 hours away from where we were staying in Sukhumvit, Bangkok. Lily was a fantastic tour guide and gave us plenty of background and history of Thailand as we drove along and was happy to answer any questions I had about Thai customs or about any tips for places to go to in Bangkok while we were there. She also gave us a detailed background story on the elephants we were about to visit. Each elephant had such a beautiful story about where they came from and how they came to the Elephants’ Home & Nature. We had the pleasure of spending our time with Jumbo (male) and Duk Dik (female). Jumbo is such a special boy. If you meet him you’ll notice he has very small tusks because he is a different species of elephant whose males don’t have the traditional tusks! He was in a “zoo” and worked as a taxi elephant in the city leading a difficult life with a plethora of health issues before coming to his beautiful new home where he was able to be rehabilitated and now lives peacefully with as much food as he wants to eat amongst the jungle and River Kwai. Duk Dik is just as special. She was an ambassador to Japan for a couple of years so she knows Japanese! Tell her she’s Kawaii (cute) and Segoie (awesome) and even say Arigato (thank you) and she will bow to you. She is absolutely beautiful and such a sweetheart. They provided us with clothes to wear before heading out. We started off learning about all the elephants and what this sanctuary stands for. These elephants live in peace and visit Buddhist monks every morning. We get on their necks with mahouts and ride down to where they have prepared their lunch. We combined pumpkin and rice and fed them directly into their mouths! We then scrubbed their mouth and teeth with Tamarind before feeding it to them. They were so patient and gentle. We then rode them through the plantation area where they grazed on choice grasses and we fed them Mentos. Yes, Mentos. SO CUTE. They would raise their trunk above their head where you’re sitting and you can drop a mentos into their trunk and they throw it into their mouths. We ended up by the River Kwai where you hold on tight as they dunk you underwater! What an experience! You get off and cover them in mud which keeps their skin moisturized and clean. If you notice, these elephants had no smell. We then brushed them with shampoo and scrubbed them clean. Then we started a water fight to get all the soap off and the elephants joined in. Lily took so many amazing pictures for us that we still look at and laugh about 2 weeks later. Tong is an amazing woman who is doing God’s work here. She has such a big heart for these big animals. She gives these animal her all.Continuation of my review regarding the full tour SP #8:After our amazing time with the elephants we went to the original railroad by the River Kwai. We walked along the tracks while learning the history of Siam and its relation to the world wars. We enjoyed some durian ice cream by the river. It is honestly so beautiful and really gives you the feeling of being in Thailand.Starting to get hungry we ask Lily if she knows a good place for lunch and she orders ahead for us so when we arrive we had some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life at a tiny restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Extremely inexpensive and we couldn’t even finish one of the dishes because of how much food there was.We get to the Safari Park where our big cat adventure begins. We start off our time there getting on a bus that drives you through the safari park which is a huge enclosure filled with all kinds of animals. They give you bowls of sliced carrots that you can feed to the deer and giraffes! They swarm the bus and put their heads through the windows while they gently grab carrots from your hands and your bowls. You get to see that the animals get to live in an emulated natural habitat and coexist very peacefully. We even saw full grown lions, tigers, leopards and bears! We then come back to the main area where we feed baby goats, pigs and rabbits. We even met a macaw who sat on my shoulder and licked the sweat from my forehead HAHAAll this to prepare you for a walk through the jungle with your choice of a tiger, leopard or black leopard (jaguar). We chose a 10 month old female tiger who happily munched on chicken every few feet while we walked and Lily took all these amazing pictures of us. All the smells of the day that you accumulate prepare you to feed a baby leopard, baby lioness and a baby tiger. You get one on one time in their enclosures feeding them milk and holding out chew toys.I can’t even describe in enough words what an amazing experience this was. Completely worth every cent and more. This was the highlight of my trip and it’s what I talk about the most. I can’t describe how crazy it is to hold a baby leopard in your arms. To ride on top of an elephant feeding it Mentos. Walking a baby tiger through the jungle. Unforgettable. I can’t say enough.P.S. Please tip your tour guides and drives and anyone who assists you during the day! These are some of the hardest working people that I’ve seen who are passionate about the work that they do. Khob Khun Ka (Thank you).
I did a lot of research before deciding to come here. They are not a sanctuary, they are a home. The people live among them & sacrifice their families to care for these magnificent creatures. I stayed for 3 days & everyone felt like family. The elephants aren’t abused in any way, they’re rewarded with treats. They eat a lot! They are treated like humans, good food, exercise, lots of play time, mud baths, treats, comfy places to rest, pray with the monks & EAT! These animals never see abuse!! I had a difficult time saying goodbye. I made lifelong connections with the elephants & the people who live & care for them. #1 destination spot! I will be back!🐘💜🐘💜
Amazing experience with the elephants! Such a pleasure meeting someone (Tong) whose passion for these beautiful animals shines through! No heavy baskets or saddles… you ride the animals bare back! Tong has rescued these elephants and it is nice to know you are supporting a worthy home for the elephants! It was the highlight of our trip. Yuth, our tour guide, and Mung, one of the workers were also especially fantastic, taking pictures the entire time and engaging with us like we were old friends. I would definitely recommend this experience!
Came here with my older sister all I can say is how incredible these animals are treated no abuse here whatsoever just a woman named Tong with a heart soooo big for these beautiful creatures. She taught us how it was okay to ride bareback given ancient history elephants are workers. She gave us a back story of how she came to rescue each one ,it was heartbreaking and emotional to see pictures of such cruelty but I’m glad these elephants now have a safe haven.
This place is paradise. I met with Tong, one of the most amazing person i met in Thailand. She organised this trip from Bangkok to Sai Yok. She is very detailed oriented, friendly, polite, customer oriented, honest and most importantly she looks after the elephants as her own babies. The elephants are so happy, playful and well looked after. My wife and myself enjoyed the elephants interaction and the mahouts. We did all activities as a donation to the sanctuary. Tong shares part of the amount to the mahouts and most of them to the elephants. She will explain you more about the daily life when you get over there. We will visit and support the sanctuary again.Photos attached speak for themselves.Regards Alam & Ambreen from Mauritius 🇲🇺🇹🇭❤️Highly recommended
Very accomodating, very entertaining yung elephants at mababait well trained ng mga mahuts at magaling yung tour guide at driver namin. Same company yung tour guides namin at yung elephant sanctuary
After communicating with Tong, we eventually made this tour. This tour was so amazing and astonishing. The driver, guide Eddie and staff D, all of them did a good job. Everything and each step was so smoothing, not even to mention the elephants. They are so well trained, cute and clever. We love these elephants so much. The younger one was so energetic and kept spraying water and making kiss. The elder Nook is more sedate. We like this tour. It is worth every penny. Thank everything Tong and her staffs did.
Unbelievable experience!Had the most memorable trip from the elephant sanctuary, from feeding to swimming together in the river to scrubbing and playing with the elephants! Just wonderful. Please continue to spread the love and care to them, hope they get more friends and donations. The santuary is a 1.5 hour private car drive if you leave early in the morning. A stop to a local eatery is a must.Thank you Tom and team for this lifetime experience!
