This trip was amazing we had so much fun cooking the way people from zanzibar cook. The food was very tasty and the spice farm tour was fun. We asked to be picked up from our hotel for an additional fee and Rashid picked us up with chef Lutfia, they were amazing friendly people we booked another tour with them with the tour guide Mohammad the same day and the day after. They have so many tours highly recommend we had so much fun.
After buying all the ingredients on the market we went to Lutfias kitchen at a spice farm. We learned a lot about spices an had a very tasteful menu.
This was great and well worth the money! We went at 9am and were the only ones on the island for a good half hour before the crowd showed up. They brought us fresh fruit and shade. Vendors also come to the island with beer/wine and souvenirs for sale.
The spice farm tour was informative, seeing, smelling, and tasting fresh spices was impressive, Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating details about the spice history. The cooking class was the highlight! We got hands on with traditional Swahili recipes, using fresh, local ingredients that we got from the market. The chef made it fun and easy to follow, and the food was delicious. I left feeling inspired to recreate these flavors at home. If you love food and culture, this is a must-do in Zanzibar! Highly recommend!
At the start of the tour, you’ll notice an expectation to contribute additional fees for various guides, artisans, and helpers, which can feel somewhat pressuring. Additionally, there may be opportunities to purchase expensive souvenirs that could strain your budget. While the overall hygiene standards could be improved—such as prompting for hand washing before food preparation—the chef is approachable and well-versed in local spices, which are aromatic and fresh. It’s advisable to adjust your expectations accordingly to ensure a pleasant experience throughout the trip.

My husband and I are celebrating our honeymoon in Zanzibar, and we had the most fantastic experience on a tour that truly immersed us in the local culture. We started our adventure at the vibrant old fort market, where we gathered fresh ingredients, followed by an enlightening spice tour that showcased the rich flavors of the island. The cooking class was the highlight, allowing us to create authentic dishes while learning from our friendly and knowledgeable guides. We can’t recommend this trip enough for anyone in Zanzibar eager to explore the local culture and indulge in delicious food!
