DeeDee tours private tour of Kanchanaburi has been the absolute highlight of our first ever trip to Thailand! We spent 4 days exploring different parts of Kanchanaburi and had a blast with Pat, who is an amazing guide and a wonderful human being. We’ve swam in the waterfalls, hiked a bit, spent time by the river, met some monkeys and elephants, learnt more about history, visited the death railway, and had the greatest local thai food in these few days we spent on the tour.Highly recommended to use DeeDee tours for discovering Kanchanaburi – you definitely won’t regret it.
This is a very positive (and long) review – in short – I would not hesitate to recommend Pat to anyone looking for trips and excursions in and around Kanchanaburi. We had considered linking these activities together ourselves, but it would have taken so many more days of our holiday, we would have missed so much, and most importantly, we would not have been lucky enough to share the experiences with Pat. Another huge bonus was the luxurious minivan that we travelled in with Pat and her driver. On the longer journeys we could stretch out and relax, and on the shorter stops the air-conditioned interior was a heavenly refuge from the heat!Pat is a very experienced tour guide; she truly believes that customer experience is paramount. She was keen to hear about the sites and experiences we wanted to visit in Thailand and was able to offer guidance and advice on the best way to fit everything in. Pat has also studied in the UK, so not only is her English is excellent, she also has an excellent perception of what ‘Western’ travellers / tourists will enjoy, both in terms of culture and food (more on that later!)As a local of Kanchanaburi, her knowledge of the surrounding area is excellent. She was able to craft an incredible bespoke three-day adventure for us, starting and finishing in Bangkok. This summary will not do the tour justice – but possibly worth a quick skim read to get a feel for some of the extra experiences Pat was able to bring – and how she came to the rescue when my phone broke! On the first day we took a longtail boat around the Damnoen Saduak floating market before heading West to Kanchanaburi. We stopped for lunch at Meena café, just one of the amazing restaurants Pat found for us (we ate our best meals in Thailand at the restaurants Pat found for us!). We visited Thamsue temple, perched high above the paddy fields, and on to Kanchanaburi town itself, where we stayed at the luxurious Royal River Kwai Resort. In the evening, Pat collected us from the hotel and we visited the night market. This was a real highlight, as Pat’s local market (she lives in Kanchanaburi itself) she was able to recommended the tastiest (and safest) food choices. We had a delicious meal and felt really safe in Pat’s company. It was our son’s 17th birthday and Pat even managed to get a cake and candles especially! We enjoyed delicious food, tasty cake and celebrated with Pat – what a way to celebrate a birthday. On the second day we headed out to the Erawan waterfalls. I should add that Pat is an excellent photographer too. It is difficult to take family photos when you are swimming in the most beautiful surroundings. Fortunately, Pat was with us every step of the way taking the most amazing photos and videos. In the afternoon we visited the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, a tranquil spot to reflect on the disturbing history of this area. Afterwards we stayed overnight at an amazing floathouse on the Kwai itself. We all loved jumping in the river and being swept downstream to get out and do it again! Sounds crazy, but great fun, and refreshing in the heat too!On our last day we visited Elephant Haven, we absolutely loved spending the day there with the elephants. We got to feed them, walk with them and even bath them in the Kwai itself! While this is clearly a tourist activity, it felt authentic, with the elephants roaming free in the countryside and bathing in the river. From experience – bathing elephants in a flowing river is a good idea. Some of the elephant sanctuaries appear to have just a big pit with little freshwater – I wouldn’t like to step into that water! Again, Pat was at our side taking amazing photos and videos so we could fully enjoy the magical experience and have photos to treasure too.Now back in Kanchanaburi, we visited the infamous Death Railway and Krasoe cave before heading back exhausted, but exhilarated, to Bangkok.I should also say that I had a bit of a disaster at Erawan waterfalls, when my supposedly waterproof phone decided that it wasn’t. Not a problem for Pat! She used her local contacts to find someone who could repair it and that evening she travelled back to Kanchanaburi to get it looked at. She was able to negotiate the repair for me (which was a bargain) and we collected the phone when we returned to Kanchanaburi the next day. What would have been a complete disaster and taken days of wandering around repair shops in the heat of Bangkok was done overnight while we slept! In summary, I simply cannot recommend Pat enough. Her warmth, integrity and passion for her job is without compare. I wish her all the success in the world.
Pat was so lovely, that we were sorry our trip with her was too short and ended so fast…She took good care of us, explained everything with a big smile, organized a custom trip by following our requests, and made the short trip unforgettable! We are so thankful! And we promise we will plan longer trips with her next time in Thailand!
Pat was the perfect guide for our Kanchanaburi tour. She was very knowledgeable about the history and culture and the national parks, and made sure we had a truly memorable experience. Pat organized all… starting from the airport pick up the hotels, and Kanzenburi area and even Khao Sok in the south, Highly recommended
Our family of 6 booked Dee Dee tours for a 2 day private tour. Our children’s ages range from 4 – 16 and they were able to tailor a tour to accommodate all their needs. Our guide took us to a variety of locations and was extremely knowledgeable of the local area. Her English was excellent and she was able to translate for us. Throughout the whole trip were small gestures like organising a booster seat for our youngest child or cool refreshing water and towels after hikes that made the trip extra special. Our guide made sure we were comfortable and was extremely organised. Highlights of the tour were swimming at the waterfalls at Erawan Park and going to a Elephant Sanctuary and feeding and bathing Elephants. They were so gentle and beautiful! Kanchanaburi is beautiful and a must see when in Thailand. We highly recommend Dee Dee tours. We were so happy with Dee Dee tours we booked another one day tour with them.
We flew up from Krabi to Bangkok (Don Muang), and then by road to Kanchanaburi. Why Kanchanaburi? Two reasons; to stay at the wonderful Oriental Kwai Resort, to enjoy the huge choice of things to do there, but most importantly, to hook up with our dear friend Pat. Pat is a Tour Guide who has turned into a treasured friend in the seven years that we have used her comprehensive and hugely enjoyable tour services. Pat excels at many things: swift and easy communication, suggesting and tailoring memorable tours visits and transportation, snapping lots of photos to record our various outings; the list goes on… But, at the top of the list of her attributes, is her capacity to have fun wherever we go.Apart from the bad Covid period, we have had yearly holidays in Thailand, and it just wouldn’t have been the same without Pat. From interpreting menus, , negotiating with Tuk-Tuk drivers, arranging transfers, and idle banter over a meal, Pat is great company in any scenario.During the last couple of trips, we were fortunate to have Pat with us in Bangkok and Ayuthaya – the latter being our first visit. We thought that we knew Bangkok quite well – but not until we had Pat with us. And Ayuthaya, thanks to Pat, was far more enjoyable than we could have hoped for.In conclusion, we think Pat should be a National Treasure, and we look forward to many more years of seeing her. Thank you for yet another brilliant holiday, Pat. See you next year!
This is an overdue THANK YOU to Pat/Dee Dee Tours for taking us on an incredible tour of Kanchanaburi. The overnight tour here was our favorite part of our 2 weeks in Thailand. Just as background, Pat is the owner and sole tour guide for Dee Dee Tours, so when you sign up for a tour, it’s completely private and she is the tour guide who will take you around. I would 100% recommend hiring her to be your guide, she’s very knowledgable about the area, paces the tour well and is an excellent communicator. She sets everything up for you and make the tour easy and effortless. Aside from taking us to all of the sites in Kanchanaburi, she also took us to several local spots with amazing food and snacks for an authentic Thai experience. The whole trip felt like a private VIP experience where Pat filled us in on tips and tricks in the area. For example, at markets she told us what was a good deal vs. what was price gouging, and at Erawan Falls she showed us a secret pathway so we could slide down the rocks into the water. She is a wealth of knowledge and a fantastic guide who focuses on making her customers happy and providing a great experience. Next trip we’ll definitely use her again. Thanks so much for an amazing time.
Pat organised two days of visits for us both, to the Erawan Falls and Hellfire Pass. We had a lovely time. She is well-informed and knowledgeable about the local area. Her driving is excellent and added an extra level of relaxation on sometimes tricky roads. All together a great way to spends two days in this area. Thanks Pat. See you next time for the elephants!
Could’t have asked for a more wonderful guide in Pat. Pat was recommended by my brother in law as his family of 4 had done 2 successful tours with Pat. I was never with out food and laughed the whole trip. I can’t thank Pat enough for her hard work to ensure I saw the beauty that is Thailand and friendship that followed. Pat is one in a million
We had the most amazing time on our 3Day tour. Definitely the highlight of our trip to Thailand. Knowledgable and very friendly and helpful guides. The car was luxurious and spacious. We had the opportunity to visit places that would not have been possible on our own. The tour was tailor made for our family and was a good mix of culture and adventure. The restaurants we ate in were fantastic and good value for money. We were given great advice on choices. We would highly recommend
