  1. This place is out of time. Once you get there, you’ll want to stay forever, surrounded by love, smiles and extreme kindness. K. Aek and his family have a soul of gold. They love what they do and everything is carefully and tastefully arranged for visitors to have the best time. Elephant care and cooking class are much more than tourist activities there. They are a shared piece of happiness in a magical setting. Long live Sonchana Farm (and Somboon!), thank you and best of luck for the future. Marion & Alex

  2. “Welcome to my farm.” That’s how we were greeted and it was the theme of the day. The family has a beautiful place and seem so proud of what they have and so pleased to be able to share it. It made the whole experience very personal and meaningful. We have two teenagers and it was excellent to have this private time with an elephant. We never felt rushed, and Samboon seemed to us to be very content and relaxed so we were too. We had a tonne of fun in the pool with him, even when Aek had him spray us when we weren’t expecting it. My daughter and I did the cooking class with Jan too, and she did a great job of sharing the duties and showing us how to make everything. If we could only get such lovely fresh ingredients at home we might come close to duplicating the taste! It was so fun to cook everything “authentically” – charcoal grills and the best mortar and pestle ever! The open air building they have was a beautiful place to cook and to eat, and they had everything set up to serve so beautifully, we felt very special. The booking was well managed through Facebook, and the pick up and drop off at our lodge no problem. Everything totally taken care of – we had a wonderful day, thank you to a beautiful Thai family that we will long remember.

  3. Today I had the chance to meet Somboon. A gentle giant who had a hard working life. He wasn’t chained when I arrived at the elephant sanctuary, which reassured me immediately. While preparing his meal, he thought it “this takes top long” and he went higher up to eat bamboo on his own. I’m so happy that he finally gets some more “freedom” to do what he wants.I was the only guest there, so I had plenty of time to get to know the elephant, feed it and play with it in the water. Komrit also took a lot of nice pictures and videos as a reminder. Very happy with this experience! And also happy for Somboon who, thanks to his adoptive family, got a new chance and can now enjoy his old age.PS: 30 min drive from Khao Sok village

  4. We spent a lot of time trying to find a truly ethical Elephant experience in Thailand and am so glad we found Sonchana Farm. This family and their farm are amazing. As we drove up the driveway we saw beautiful Somboon off on his own eating bamboo. He had plenty of freedom and room to roam and what I loved most of all was that he was controlled only by voice commands. We spent an hour and a half feeding him bananas cooking his food and then we all wondered up the hill to a pond where he bathed. Congratulations Sonchana farm and thank you for the best day we had in Thailand.

  5. It was great experience from beggining to the end. Great and fast communicating in facebook, super nice host. Tours are private and very interesting. Elephant Somboo seems to be well taking care of. Very beautiful place.

  6. We had an amazing experience at Sonchana farm ! First caring for Somboon, cooking for him, feeding him and bathing him.And then an amazing cooking class ! We had great fun with our children during this class. And never have we eaten such an amazing meal !!! We had mentionned we were vegetarians and the meal was suited to our requests : the recipes were made with tofu instead of chicken.Thank you for an amazing experience, these memories will be treasured for a long long time.

  7. I loved this farm so much. The elephant is so sweet and so well taken care of and the farm is beautiful. Totally worth it, one of the best experiences of our trip.

  8. It was the 2nd time we went to the Sonchana Farm with a group of friends and again: we spent unforgettable hours on the ecological Sonchana Farm.Part of our group booked the “elephant experience”: We learned interesting things about elephants, cooked for somboon and fed him. You can also “wash” the elephant in the pond and bathe with him. Somboon is the loveliest elephant I’ve come across. He is treated very caringly and respectfully by Khun Aek – and the elephant obeys Khun Aek’s word. The other part of our group booked the “Retro Thai Cooking Class”. Cooking is only done with traditional methods – with bamboo, banana leaves, clay pots over an open fire or with charcoal – no gas, no electricity and, above all, there is no plastic. The bowls are made from bamboo and the plates are made from wood. It was fascinating – and the food tasted heavenly.Be sure to book both experiences – it’s worth it.

  9. The best elephant sanctuary I have ever visited.I wasn’t too sure what to expect beforehand, but from the moment I arrived I knew I was in for a wonderful time. A very eco and sustainable farm looking after Soomboon (a retired working elephant). He is well looked after and loved by the farm.An intimate excursion caring for him, cooking and washing him in the pond. The family take care of him very well.To feed him, walk alongside him and bath him was the most wonderful experience. The farm surroundings and views are breathtaking.Best elephant tour I have ever done, and I have done many around the world.

  10. A wonderful visit to a beautiful farm run by a lovely family. The retired elephant is well loved and cared for. Thank you for a wonderful day!
