Sol Heng Tai is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 282 Soi Duangtawan Talat Noi, Samphanthawong, 10100, Thailand
This mansion is a very charming old Chinese wooden house just recently opened to the public. It is privately owned and a beautiful example of traditional wooden patio style Chinese architecture. The owner family just recently opened a small coffee shop inside, and it is an oasis of calm.
A great place to visit in thailand. this location is home to over 40 beagles, with very cute puppies. The patio overlooks a 4 meter deep swimming pool, used for SCUBA training. (NAUI) This is one of the very few places in bangkok where you can get certified for open water diving. Entry fee: None, but you must purchase a drink from the cafe if you visit. *the dogs are quite smelly, but they are kept in a contained area*
Located in Chinatown, close to the river – oasis of peace! Beautiful house in chineese style was touched by the time, a lot of plants, swimming pool and there is also café inside. Very polite owners of the place, that live there and have many Beagles which take part in dog shows! Good scenery for amazing pictures! Amazing place to rest little bit from the Bangkok’s trafic and crowds. Definitely recommend!
So Heng TaiWhen in Talat Noi , one place you wouldn’t want to miss (At least, that’s what the other reviewers say) is this Old style Chinese house that’s been there for generations called ‘ So Heng Tai ‘. There we went and let’s see what’s good..First of all, I was so loving the entrance as really, not many houses in Thailand would have that style of painting or decoration. It’s truly Chinese..Right after you walk in, you will find this swimming pool where they use to teach a diving course. Oh! So it’s somehow a diving center as well? I would say so.. The swimming pool surrounded with the houses itself where the family still live in.People come here a lot mostly to see the typical Chinese house as they really keep it the way it used to be. The broken red doors with Chinese characters on them. The red wall with the photos of The King rama 9 and the Queen Sirikit and the top of the white wall has such a beautiful and colourful Chinese style painting. So Heng Tai CafeBesides the small diving centre they have going on, there’s also a small cafe’ offers a few types of drink with decent prices. Like, this lychee soda I got costed me 60 THB (2 USD). They also make themselves clear by stating at the main entrance that ‘To visit and look around their house, you need to purchase some drinks at least on drink per person..’ which is totally understandable.I think So Heng Tai is a cool place to come check out and see if you’re interested at all in how people used to live in the past or how the place’s designed. Other than that, not much at all 🙂
The area where So Heng Tai Mansion is located in Chinatown Talad Noi is already a visit to Chinese Bangkok’s past. Lost in a small alleyway, this magnificent Hokkien-style architectural mansion whose only indication of its location to visitors is its beautiful red door and lanterns. The heir built a swimming pool in the middle of the courtyard and opened a diving school, which has made it possible to maintain this unique heritage. Very beautiful porcelain and teak ornaments. free entrance, I think it is good to show some Savoir-Vivre and take the time to order a drink and enjoy the unique environment of this magnificent Patrimoine.
I have to go there on 21/3/19 i just following by reviews the first when I meet the staff i just ask some questions like where we can parking my car ??? But she stop smiling and say you can’t parking there i say ok and she ask again you just come here for feel a minute or longer !??! Wtf I just be there and she can’t ask this question !!!!!
This was a very disappointing visit because the way it is described makes it seem so lovely. First it is very hard to find. The taxi driver went in circles and we ended up walking and following our phone GPS instead. We finally get there and it is decrepit and poorly maintained. The swimming pool takes up all of the courtyard and is an eyesore and disgrace to traditional Chinese architecture. There are fish tanks everywhere breeding goldfish and the sound of barking dogs is incessant. The family that is hanging out there requires the purchase of an 80 baht smoothie, ok fine. There is not much to see, but remnants. You can peer through the cracks and see a whole room about to collapse. I was nervous about walking on the second story as it seemed very structurally unsound. Ok finishing the smoothie, we go downstairs to use the toilet. Only to find the source of the incessant barking is rooms full of beagle puppies in cages/kennels. There are hundreds of them, some waiting to be shipped out!? But all confined to very small cages. There is a table full of trophies for dog shows, but the the conditions are not healthy for these dogs. This made the visit very disturbing and we were left not knowing what to do. But the family had no shame in having these dogs out in the open. So maybe there is no violation happening, but still a sad sight. I think the owner’s interests are obvious- scuba diving, breeding beagles, and goldfish. But certainly not historical preservation.
It was terrible, manager was super rude.I didnt know about that you must to buy coffee before going to 2nd floorSo he shouted at me and told me to coming back to the place where I came from
This is an old Chinese House, well over 200 years old certainly worth visiting – however the pool you see in many pics unfortunately is not maintaned and is pretty dirty for a dip!Right now a family is running the entrance (fee THB50) which includes a bottle of water, always welcome; the little boy speaks good English; touring the house will take no longer than 10/15 mins, you are free to sit down upstairs if you bought a coffee or another drink from the entrance, take few pucs, read the history and done; is never busy as max you will have 4 or 5 other people hanging around, worth it!However what I want to recommenddis a wonderful tiny coffee shop across the house, run by an extremely helpful and talkative young lady just out if uni – cannot find thus place anywhere is called “Baan Chin Cha – Tea/Cake/Art” and is wonderful; drinks all homemade, coffe beans chosen by the young lady because “are the ones she likes it as well” and coffee is really good and espresso served in small glasses – top class!
