The Bo Rai community got together, drew on traditions used for generations, and developed one of the most unique spas experiences I’ve ever seen. It was relaxing, educational, and really laid back. Village children painted us with lightly perfumed white mud, which we let dry and and then rinsed in the river. (The ride to the river for this portion of the spa treatment? In a motorscooter side car!) Then we sat in individual steam huts (the design is based on chicken coops!) that women once used to detox after childbirth. And we topped it off with the perfect Thai massage in the open air. This is not a “fancy” experience. You’re tucked into a forest with very rustic facilities. There is no whale sounds and not an ounce of pretension, here. But if your goal is to unwind and utterly unplug, this far-flung spa is for you.
Sadly after driving for some time trying to find it we did and sadly this place has closed to the public
We visited a village of Chong people, the indigenous inhabitants of this region. With only 1000 baht, we spent an amazing 4 hours doing a lot of fun activities with locals. Activities included1. Gemstone panning in a nearby creek2. Traditional Chong recipe body scrub (white mud with local herbs)3. Authentic Chong lunch = Coconut curry with chicken, spices and banana leaf sheath (แกงไก่กล้วยพระ) eat with flavored sticky rice ; look simple but damn delicious4. Make your own inhaler with many local ingredients5. Spa De Chong = “Chicken coop” sauna with local herbsReally enjoy!Don’t miss this place.Highly recommend.
