  1. Within the Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-Hunting Area, next to the park headquarters, is a little cliff called Pha Mok Mi Wai. One might come across articles saying this place is good for watching the sea of fog, but this cliff faces west, or this visitor wonders how true it is. But still, this is a great place for watching the sunset. Next to this cliff are the bungalows that the park rents out to visitors. There is also a small little canteen selling food and drinks.

  2. It is called “Non-hunting area” because it does not have the status of a national park, but is treated like one and it is under the authority of the Thai National Park administration. The name “Tham Pha Nam Thip” means: Cave (in a) Cliff (with) Holy Water. The aforementioned cliff however, has its own name: “Pha Mok Mi Wai” meaning: Cliff (where the) Clouds Never Fade, referring to a sea of clouds you can observe here sometimes…at least this is what the name wants to tell us.Well, the clouds I saw where high up in the sky, but that didn’t make the view from the cliff less impressive. It was really nice, indeed. Unfortunately we couldn’t wait long enough to enjoy the sunset from here. And there was not enough time to find and visit the cave, so I cannot give any information about it, nor can I tell if it is possible to see it at all. If you are looking for destinations called “Off the beaten Path” you have come to the right place. There is no foreign visitor anywhere to be seen around here. The only international thing are some direction signs, that are bilingual (Thai & English); all information boards are in Thai only. That, makes it an almost 100% Thai environment. To me, this was one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much. The place offers bungalows for overnight stays, but is also good for one-day trips. It can be easily combined with a visit to Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol (Isaan Buddhist Park), which is only 10 kilometres away and So Da Cave Waterfall, located in the same area. There are two nature trails to follow. We picked one and on the 30 minute hike we saw monkeys that live here in the trees and caterpillars on the wooden walkway. They are mildly poisonous, we’ve been told, meaning touching them does not kill you, but it can be very painful. No hiking boots are necessary for the trails, but I recommend shoes instead of sandals because of the caterpillars. They have a small shop and snack bar where you can buy basic food, cold drinks and ice/hot coffee.Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-hunting Area is a preferred destination for student groups from schools in this region.
