  1. This is an exceptionally interesting and well presented park of fossilized trees. There are five trees to visit, and one is really a giant. Very easy and pleasant site at a short drive from Tak.

  2. You get to see 5 very poorly preserved fossilized tree trunks. I stopped as saw the sign driving by but you’ll see better at your average furniture store in Thailand. To their credit they did let me in for free which seems unheard of in Thai parks these days.

  3. The Petrified Wood Forest Park is now apparently a part of the Doi Soi Malai – Maiklaypenhin National Park. The main attraction of the park are several huge petrified logs that have been uncovered. The largest of the logs is a tad short of 70 meters in length and has recently been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest petrified log in the world. The uncovered logs are now covered by roofs to protect them from rainfall and weathering, but are now subjected to steady bird droppings (most likely far more damaging to the logs than rainfall) from the pigeons that are attracted to roost on the steel supports of the roofs. The park managers have tried to address the bird droppings problem by putting plastic covers over the most vulnerable areas of the logs, but the efforts are largely unsuccessful; they really need to solve this problem soon to avoid damage to the logs. The park is relatively unknown to tourists, and when we visited, there was only one other family in the park. With an upgrade of the infrastructure, better protection of the logs (especially from bird droppings), and better signage and interpretation, this could be a wonderful park. As it currently stands, the park is mainly attracting only tourists keenly interested in geology or forestry who will drive to this somewhat out-of-the-way location. Let’s hope the park’s department will invest to build up this park to reach its full potential. One good aspect of the obscurity of the park is that there is currently no entry charge.

  4. Really enjoyed this place, certainly one for all with an interest in geology etc. Off the beaten track a bit but well worth a visit. It is amazing to see the lenghts they have gone to try and protect the petrified tree trunks. The site has some lovely trees, all named, and walks. There is a small restaurant and toilets, although the restaurant didn’t seem to be open, probably a post covid consequence.
