  1. The provinces of Surin and Sisaket have dozens and dozens of ancient temple sites from the glory days of Angkor. Some of them see a trickle of visitors and others are comparatively unknown. Prang Ku Sumbon is an 11th century temple which is still in reasonable repair, but it sees few visitors due to its remote location in a small village in the corner of Sisaket province. Nonetheless, it is well-signposted from the main road, so you won’t have too hard a time finding it.The temple is surrounded by a U-shaped moat which is still full of water. It consists of three ruined towers on a laterite base. The central tower is the best preserved. It still has a lintel in place over the door, which shows two rows of crude figures. The site is surrounded by thick growth and has a secluded feel.

  2. This was the last Wat that my wife & I visited on this trip to Sisaket and incredibly happy that we did as we both felt an affiliation with this ancient & significantly ruined temple. Whilst it was not so easy to find after driving southbound turning right off 2083 and right again onto 2349 then right to the site, it was not too bad. Narrow paved village roads winding through country fields took you back in time preparing you for this temple. The well cared for grounds were clean & we noticed 2 monks working in the garden areas. A quiet & serene ambiance pervaded. The absence of people made our visit more enjoyable as we could wander the ship like structure in our own time. The remaining ruins are relatively small in area but still give an idea of what the original may have been. The moat was dry at the time of our visit but you are able to recognize the shape. For the enthusiast well worth the visit.
