Ko Chik Nok is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
Ko Chik Nok is a small coastal island in the Gulf of Thailand between the provincial borders of Chanthaburi and Trat.Few people have heard of it, including most Thais that you talk to. It is hard to find, difficult to get to, and not many people go there. Which makes it a great attraction for people like me.Before I go on, I should explain that when Thai is translated using the English alphabet, spellings can vary enormously, even in the same document. So Ko Chik Nok is also Koh Chik Nok, and Koh Jik. In addition, there is Ban Ko Chik, with is a very small village on the island, and Koh Jik Resort, which is an even smaller resort on the eastern side of the island, with small cabins set on piers jutting out into the sea.The great appeal of Ko Chik is its isolation. You are surrounded by azure blue water; there is a 100 meter golden sand beach on the east of the island with a gentle incline into the warm waters of the Gulf. There is a small picturesque fishing village on the north west corner of the island with a school and a Buddhist temple. You can walk from one side of the island to the other in 30 minutes, and all the way around it, apart from one area where there are cliffs, in less than two hours. To get to Ko Chik you must find your way to Ban Ang Krapong, a small village with a pier a few kilometers further down the road from the Trat airport. From here you can organize a ferry or even a local fisherman to take you across to the island. It takes about 40 minutes. If you are still having difficult finding Ko Chik Nok it is at coordinates 12 degrees 17/30 north and 102 degrees 14/18 East.Happy exploring.
