  1. We stopped in to visit this museum (also on TA under WWII Museum) while driving the Mae Hong Son Loop. Although we wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to visit, we would recommend stopping here if you are driving the loop or happen to be in the vicinity. It was an educational stop and was also easy to find right next to the main highway. All of the exhibits were in English, Thai, and Japanese, plus there was a short video. It was interesting to learn more about this region of Thailand and its role during WWII, although at many points we were left with more questions than before since the information isn’t always incredibly detailed. More details about our road trip and the museum can be found on our blog: http://swansoni.blogspot.com/2015/01/driving-mae-hong-son-loop-mountains.html

  2. This WWII friendship museum is meant to bury the hatchet for war time aggression and tells the tale of WWII soldiers retreating back through northern Thailand as the Allies pushed them out of Burma at the end of the war. An interesting site and well worth a visit.

  3. This small museum documents the history of Thai-Japanese friendship arising from the Japanese occupation of the area during World War Two.The museum was funded and built by the Japanese, so it understandably has a pro-Japanese bias to its exhibits. Our motorcycle tour group stopped in for a visit, as we were passing by. It was an interesting short visit but probably not worth making a detour specifically to visit the museum.

  4. as other comments indicate, this is typical pro-japanese war museum. quite biased in this point, a kind of romanticizing the war. however, it is worth to look at because local people usually do not talk about the issue. receptionist also like to talk to visitors including war.

  5. There is a lot of photos and soldiers equipment storage boxes and water jars. There are rusted cabs of trucks be they Japanese or Thai. Overall not really worth the visit. From the couple of tickets sold out of a book, not many foreign visitors.

  6. nice visit, watched a history video, then a walk around displays which were very interesting, from war and life style history point of view.100 baht entry, I’d say worth it for 30-45 mins

  7. This museum is situated right in the centre of Khun Yuam by the main road. Cannot be missed. It explains in a few rooms the Japanese involvement in this area in WW II.It’s worth paying the admission.

  8. I visited here and found a lot out about the relationship between the area/Japanese/WWII and Thai traditions. It’s only pretty small museum and takes less than 30 minutes to look at everything, there is also a 10 minute film (which goes over all that’s shown inside). It costs 100B adult/50B children.I was going through town so I popped in, I’m not sure it’s worth traveling a long distance to see you may be disappointed.

  9. This memorial is very sentimental since there were many Japanese soldiers sent to Khun Yuam where it was a Japanese base to launch attacks on Burma. Many Japanese soldiers committed Harakiri in Khun Yuam when Japan declared an end to the war.

  10. This museum provides a lot of information about Japanese army “in this region” during the Second World War (don’t focus on the mainstream of the war). Very interesting.Entrance fee = 20 baht for Thai & 50 baht for foreigner.
