Doi Tao lake is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking , Thailand
Unfortunately there has not been adequate rainfall to fill the lake as pictured here previously. We were quite surprised to find a vastly depleted lake area in contrast to the photos we recently viewed. Hopefully this area will eventually get more water to restore it’s wonderful natural beauty and attractions.
Doi Tao in general is amazing with its natural sights and crystal clear air. The lake is also back to being fabulous after the long drought of the past few years.You can eat fresh fish from the lake on the floating restaurant and even rent your own raft and have your meal in the middle of the lake with family and friends. Way fun!I suggest spending half day here and perhaps sleep on one of the new resorts close by.Recommended to anyone!!

The lake itself is very beautiful – clear waters surrounded by wooded mountains. However the site is seriously devalued by the scrubby car parking are area and the slippery and rotten wooden gangplanks to the lakeside restaurants. The restaurants themselves, while friendly, are nothing special and their toilets – yuk! In the nearby market area there are lots of fish stalls where the fish themselves are arranged in artistic and original fashion.
You can drive into the field. There is ferry to another side for the local ppl to travel with motobike and car. Local ppl come here to get fish for their life. The lake is so big!! The water here come from Ping river. If there is much water during rain season, you may not see the field.
This lake used to be filled with water and people could eat fresh water fishes that were caught from the lake. There were so many floating restaurants where one can enjoy watching sunsets. It is very sad that the water level is hardly a river.
Living only 40 kilometers from Doi Tao “lake”, I have been there several times.But for almost 2 years now, the lake has become a huge field with a small river flowing in the middleVery sad if we compare with the activities of 2 years ago, with the fishermen, the fish market and many floating restaurants.If you like to walk, this is a nice area.If you want to enjoy the water, you could be disappointed …
Doi Tao Lake is BACK, after a very rainy 2022 filled the lake once again. Fine place for lunch on nicely fried freshwater fish (local catch), stir-fried veggies, rice and a cold beer. (Soft drinks and bottled water available). Or stay for an overnight to catch the early morning mist over the lake between now and March.
