Me and my wife, we ride up there on early of February. The route to the top is very simple and can access by all type of vehicle, but just only dry season. Route has half concrete (20%) and sand-dirt (80%), a bit narrow, not too steep. There is no patrol station, once you turned left from main road, therefore make sure you have enough fuel. The mountain top is flat land, developed by Agriculture department of Chiang Mai university, so the location is well maintenance, and oversee by government employees. On the top, you will see the stunning southside of Doi Luang, and Chiang Dao city pretty easy. Surrounded by wild Himalayan cherry or sour cherry trees that will blossom on mid of Jan to Feb (luckily we were there at the right time) There is toilet, bathroom, so location is good for camping, but you pay for maintenance fee (I’m not sure, about 100-150 THB) Heading west from this location, has another campsite, run by local people, but worse landscape and not well organize.
