Mae Moei National Park is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Highway 1267, 63150, Thailand
Its a steep drive up to about 1km high to view absolutely spectacular scenery and vistas. It is recommended to go there during the winter months , especially dec/jan and in the early morning to see the view from the various view points above the clouds. The ranger station at the entrance rents out camping gear and places to park which include electricity, but most people take the equipment up to the view points and camp there overnight to see the sunrise. Entrance to the Park is B200 for foreigners and a lot less for Thais and it is well worth it. Very few people seem to come here and I dont know why because it is absolutely stunning. Viewpoints, Waterfalls, and caves on the way back too.
The scenery and drive upwards to the top is beautiful in parts .. however the road is pot holed in many places. The picturesque spots to view are plagued by large groups of teens on mopeds screaming and shouting also lots of litter …at the top you can stay in a tent but we were told that the locals would come up at night and drink and play music …whilst we were there there must have been 30 teens smoking and chatting on mobiles shouting etc.. as we left two truck loads of scouts arrived !! No food or drinks available .. at the exit there is a food place which I would suggest do not eat at. Having driven for 3 hours to get there it was very sad to be unable to enjoy the nature and witness the lack of care, respect and attention to this beautiful area. They also charge foreigners 200 baht and Thai free .. this is to help the upkeep of the park( a joke of course) and is not racism or corruption I was advised Cannot recommend it’s not worth the journey
