  1. This was a fun park with good hiking – though the combo of distance and heat were a bit much for our younger children – and some dinosaur fossils and foot prints to look at. It was a memorable stop on my family’s Summer Tour de Thailand.

  2. Walking next to dinosaur prints in stone, 65 million years apart, was well worth the time. Museum is worth a few minutes at best. We rented scooters from Khon Khaen, rode the 12km north to the prints and then visited all sites by foot. Sites have buildings over to protect from public and climate but one site’s door was open when we arrived so we were able to (carefully) get to within centimetres of the fossils. Site access on foot is difficult as the walking would be approximate 12km. Terrain is fairly easy apart from a moderate gradient ascent of 70m approx.

  3. The dinosaur fossils were nice but the hiking and views were even better. The only downside would be the difficulty for young kids and old people; my son is 7, and mother in law is 71, and both could do it, but it’s a rough go for a short hike loop (2 kilometers), due to the uphill nature of a lot of it. They had an option for a shuttle, a 4WD truck, to let you skip the extra 2 kilometer walk back to the start and we went with that. The fossils themselves were a bit limited but still interesting to see them arranged as they were found. For me the short hike was great since I miss such a thing, and although it wouldn’t have seemed cool to most people from us living in Bangkok it did. The small museum at the entrance to the area is well worth a look because there are some displays and a few shelves of fossils there, just odd that there was no one working there at that time. If you didn’t do any walking there wouldn’t really be much to see, maybe worth a drive around if you were already at the separate museum nearby but you wouldn’t experience much. We drove an extra dozen kilometers to a separate area to see a few small dinosaur tracks; really as well to skip that, unless a drive out in the country up a steep hill area sounds good.

  4. dinosaur display was nice and very uncrowded unlike most places in Thailand… trail was a little long and difficult for the old ones but very beautiful vistas … just a note bring plenty water and snacks pause and rest at overlooks im diabetic had little water and no snack so it was struggle at the end but worth it. we did see wild fowl but no other wildlife sad the poaching in parks in Thailand is rampant… all in all nice day trip from khon kaen john

  5. It takes two and a half hour drive from downtown Udon thani. I recommend charter a taxi for a whole day(8 hours) for 1800 B (1US=36B, US50) plus fuel fee like airlines, 500B. There are 3 parts. 1 st one is a rotary full of dinosauru. Wellcome center, it has a visitor center and a restrooms. Picture spot. 2 nd place. A museum. 80B. Don’t expect too much. Just a little exhibition room with a small diorama. Restroom and a gift shop. 3 rd spot. You can see a real excavation site. 200B Please remind, this is not a place, you just sitting a tram and go around. You need to walk on your foot all the way. First site is not bad, 300m(0.2MIle) of loose slope. 2nd one is straight steep uphill road for about 1Km(0.6mile). No shades till you get to the view point, that means a top of the hill. Cool weather might be OK, but over 30C (90F) plus weather wore you out. We just head back after the second one. Bring a cap and a bottle of water. No shops are open at this place.

  6. We caught a mini bus service from KoenKhan that offers a pre arranged pick up time from the park .Driver a little erratic but that’s another story . We had been quite excited to see fossils and had hoped for some wildlife as well . Temperature turned out to be about 36 C and the park was very hot and dry .The walk itself interesting enough with a few shaded seating areas at view points . The enclosed fossil and skeletal remain sites were vandalised and run down with the most spectacular being a cavernous enclosed site of stairways where the initial Thailand dinosaur was discovered . This leads onto a hot down hill road walk back to the visitors centre and friendly locals at the simple Thai cafe . Quite an oasis really after the sweltering humid heat . Perhaps the park displays were quite grand once but it seems the emphasis on dinasours and dinosaur statues in the surrounding towns gives an impression of something amazing which the park doesn’t quite live up to . This national park has a lot of potential but didn’t quite meet our expectations .

  7. If you are looking for dinosaur fossils and dinosaur steps, prehistoric human skeletons and iron tools, you must to visit tt place located in Phu Wiang district about 70 kilometers North West of Khon Kaen. The park was established in 1991, 15 years after a uranium prospector stumbled onto the the fossilized remains of a 15-metre-long herbivorous sauropad that lived during the early Cretaceous Period, around 100 million years ago.Bonus: Make a stop at the nearby Si Wiang Dinosaur Park to see a bigger collection of dinosaur depictions made out of concrete.

  8. There are some great places up here and Phu Wiang is one of them. Literally meaning Mountains Around Town it is true. Again looking at Google Maps you can see the formation created by an asteroid strike millions of years ago. Once you get to the hills the dir is cooler so it’s great on a hot day. Don’t have many English speakers up here but you can get by

  9. Wow ….very nice area, with 4 locations of dinoraurs findings. Numbers 1-2-3 and 9 to be exactly. Good preserved remainings of dinosaurs,: bones, skeletons and footprints. Also beautiful flora and variation of stones, rocks and sand in different colours ( from black to red). As a foreigner you pay 200THB. Thai nationals 40 THB. But worth it’s money. Don’t forget to take sun protection ( creme- sunhead or umbrella and water) you can park at two different sides on a designated parking and walk each way to the 4 sides. Either you start at number 9 or at number 3. Total on foot about 2.5km so have the adopted footwear on, because you are in the hills. Or you drive with the car to parking close to number 3 or 9. The route by foot from number 3 is the longest. Enjoy it!

  10. If seeing dinosaur bones (a few of) set into the ground (replaced after being studied) sounds like of interest, then this place is for you. The paths are well set out and there is quite a long uphill climb onto the ridge which gives you fabulous views to the west – this was the highlight for me, along with the adult crested serpent eagle that flew overhead calling. It was hot to walk around and the vegetation parched in the dry season was crying out for moisture.
