We drove here with our rental car about 1 hour from our hotel near the BKK Airport. It’s all freeway until the good rural 2 lane road that crosses rice fields with flocks of Asian open-billed storks. The centerpiece here is clearly the beautiful white grand hall with an interior of glistening columns and bright chandleries highlighting the golden Buddhas where people come to show reverence, add gold leaf and worship. It is accessed over a long bridge crossing water guarded by large nagas. An adjoining courtyard overlooked by a tall standing Buddha and a taller unfinished monk had a feeding elephant and huge covered gongs. We found a few local eateries, clean restrooms and an elephant being washed near a temple building under construction. We completed our full morning tour continuing ~30 miles east on freeway #304 to visit the contrasting Wat Saman Rattanaram Temple with its crowded marketplace and riverside park featuring huge Hindu deities.
